So for the new Les Paul jr's I am building I thought I would try "Bare Knuckle Pickups' from the UK.
I Have ordered their "Blue Note" p90 the specs were :
Bridge position
Alnico 2
7.5 K Ohms
inductance is not given.(so I shall measure that myself.)

Staining yesterday's LP Jr with Stewmac's cherry red used "straight" after grain filling with Colortone's mahogany filler, stained a tad darker with to***co brown.Can't wait to spray it with Nitro tomorrow .

Finished the woodwork today on this Les Paul Junior Double Cutaway.
It's all mahogany 1 piece body 2 piece neck and a thick rosewood fingerboard which I carved nicely into the neck.(curved the edges so you can't feel any transition from the neck wood to fingerboard which happens if your fingerboard is really thick) the total neck thickness is 0.8" at the 1st fret and 0.9" at the 12th the same as gibsons LPJ's anyway, I'am going to finish it in Cherry red.

Fender Tweed Deluxe 5E3 Neil Young Clone Part 2.
Well here is part 2 in the Neil Young Tweed Deluxe 5e3 clone build.
A few issues are addressed that arose through an interview given by Larry Cragg who has been Neil Youngs guitar tech since 1972 .
These concern different tubes used by Grandpa Grunge, 6L6's instead of the 6V6's supplied the upgraded transformer that should be used to achieve the higher voltage on the B+ needed to run 6L6's at full whack and an alternative rectifier tube.
The speaker must also be changed from the supplied Jensen P12R to a Jensen C12N.
I decide to change the Alpha pots that came with the kit for matched USA made CTS pots.
The Eyelet board is finished in this episode.

I always wanted a Fender Tweed Deluxe 5E3 ever since I saw and heard Neil Young playing live with his.
Although an original was beyond the reach of my budget for a new workshop amp ( $ 1250 ) a kit wasn't. I found a kit supplier in Germany called Tubeampdoctor ( TAD ) and the 5E3 kit had rave reviews, so I bought one.This video the first of a few about me building the amp and upgrading it to something resembling Neil Youngs.
This kit is my starting point for the Neil Young Clone.

Fixed it, Yeah Baby The British invasion has returned.
Everything works like it should ,I actually fixed it.
With the help of Stephen Grosvenors readable schematic.
There was so much wrong it amazed me it had ever worked at all.
The caps were all burnt up (literally a crumbling chard mess) leaking DC and/or the wrong values.This was probably due to the B+ being connected wrong (LMAO when I saw it) .
The resistors on the power tubes had all drifted to near double the value they should have been.
The phase inverter tube V2 circuit was, to use a technical term "nackered"
The brilliant channel didn't work because C3 had exploded at some point in it's life,
I found wires that weren't really connected they just had the insulation stuck to a lug.Lots of lugs were broken (I broke One which for a novice isn't bad I reckon.) I actually repaired all the broken turret board lugs with new ones.
The list is endless really.I shall make a video next week.
I did some measurements and calculations and found the EL84 plate dissipation a bit "Hot" 14,5 W so I upped the cathode resistor to 90 Ohms and got it down to 12,5 W which is still on the "Hot" side I guess.
I kept everything I took out of this amp, so if you wanted this amp to be in the "original" valuable "nonworking" state you could put it all back in and just look at your broken amp stood in the corner.
I on the other hand am not the slightest bit interested in the value I would rather it worked.

Got to get this 1964 VOX repaired.
Finally after a month of staring at the schematic at every possible opportunity and reading up on the workings of tube amps I feel confident enough to have a go at fixing this gem. I have ordered every part on the turret boards yesterday from http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/ and they sent an email that it's all in the post.
Guess I better warm up my soldering iron then.Wish me luck I'll need it.

Made this "Tiny Telecaster" with bits and bobs I had laying around.The Lavender color is going to receive a good "Swirling" results will follow.It's a one piece Oregon Pine body with a home wound pickup.The next one I make will have a Tiny neck which makes more sense as they are meant for kids I guess.This will also move the center of gravity more to the middle now the neck is too heavy which would make playing this one for long periods a bit tiring perhaps.Great fun though.

Back in the day (50's and 60's) these old color charts from different car manufacturers were used by Fender and the like for their fabulous guitars.They even kept the names of the colors the same i.e Sonic Blue (1956 Cadillac color chart) or Fiesta Red (Ford 1956) It's funny to see the colors they decided not to use some of which I think are quite nice.The names are really funny.
