How does F.R.A.® system 2 actually work?
F.R.A.® system 2 includes bitless options such as the bosal and hackamore.
What they have in common is the way the rein aids act: through pressure on the horse's nose.
With the hackamore-type options, leverage also plays an important role. The amount of leverage depends on the length of the shanks. Longer shanks can create greater leverage, which means even a small movement of the rider's hand can have a clear effect.
This is why these options demand an experienced rider with sensitive, independent hands. Timing matters. The rider needs to know not only when to apply an aid, but also when to release it.
And that release is essential.
When the rein is released, the pressure should be released clearly too. This gives the horse a clear distinction between the aid and the moment the aid ends.
So when looking at system 2, remember:
→ direct rein aids
→ pressure on the nose
→ includes bosal and hackamore options
→ leverage depends on the length of the shanks
→ good release of pressure
