Im not a big fan of mounting big birds since the small ones are my thing, but I actually do mount them sometimes. I mounted this Rüppell's vulture a while ago, it was a skin without any bones, so a very difficult and timetaking job to do. All bones had to be replaced by wires and casts to rebuild the skeleton and sctructure of this big boy.
This is one of the biggest birds I ever mounted, he has a very impressive claw that is the same size as my hand (last picture) and a wingspan of 2.26 to 2.6 m (7 ft 5 in to 8 ft 6 in), the weight of this species ranges from 6.4 to 9 kg.

Rüppell's vulture (Gyps rueppelli), also called Rüppell's griffon vulture, named after Eduard Rüppell, is a large bird of prey, mainly native to the Sahel region and East Africa. Rüppell's vulture is considered to be the highest-flying bird, with confirmed evidence of a flight at an altitude of 11,300 m (37,000 ft) above sea level.
It cruises at a speed of 35 km/h (22 mph), but flies for 6–7 hours every day and as far as 150 km (93 mi) from a nest site to find food.

This common swift flew to his new forever home today!
The common swift (Apus apus) is a medium-sized bird, superficially similar to the barn swallow or house martin but somewhat larger, though not stemming from those passerine species, being in the order Apodiformes. The resemblances between the groups are due to convergent evolution, reflecting similar contextual development. The swifts' nearest relatives are the New World hummingbirds and the Southeast Asian treeswifts.
Swifts have very short legs which they use primarily for clinging to vertical surfaces (hence the German name Mauersegler, literally meaning "wall-glider"). They never settle voluntarily on the ground, where they would be vulnerable to accidents and predation, and non-breeding individuals may spend up to ten months in continuous flight.

Wij zijn per direct opzoek naar een werkvoorbereider/assistent taxidermist (m/v) ter versterking van ons team. We zoeken iemand die zelfstandig kan werken en creatief inzicht heeft.

De functie bestaat uit o.a. het behandelen van huiden en assisteren van de taxidermisten op de werkvloer. Het betreft een functie voor 32 tot 40 uur in de week, met het uitzicht op een vaste aanstelling.

In zowel 2021 als 2023 zijn we Europees Kampioen geworden! Bouten Taxidermy heeft meer dan 100 jaar ervaring in het prepareren van dieren. Onze werken zijn onder anderen te zien in Naturalis, Artis en diverse natuurhistorische musea over de hele wereld.

We are proud to announce that taxidermist and owner of "The Breathless Zoo", Christel van Ommen-Verdaasdonk won "BEST IN WORLD" Non-Game Bird Master Division at the 2022 World Taxidermy championships in Springfield, Missouri. She won it for her Paradise tanager that scored 93 points. For the same piece she also won " BEST OF SHOW HABITAT"!
She is the first female winner of both titels and had to defeat 3 former world champions to win them.
She also is the first Dutch Taxidermist after Simon Blackshaw to win Best In World in the USA.
An amazing achievement we are very proud of!

This common kingfisher is ready to go home (commission work so not for sale).

Like all kingfishers, the common kingfisher is highly territorial, since it must eat around 60% of its body weight each day, it is essential to have control of a suitable stretch of river. Common kingfishers are important members of ecosystems and good indicators of freshwater community health. The highest densities of breeding birds are found in habitats with clear water, which permits optimal prey visibility, and trees or shrubs on the banks. These habitats have also the highest quality of water, so the presence of this bird confirms the standard of the water.

We are proud to announce that our taxidermist Christel has won the 1st price (95point) and in the small birds category in the professional division. With this flame faced tanager (Tangara parzudakii). And was also awarded the Karl Lange awars, choosen by the judges out of all the entries in the professional division. And the SZK award provided by the Swedisch Taxidermy Association for the highest scoring small bird in the professional division.

Long-tailed broadbill, (Psarisomus dalhousiae). It's the only species within the genus Psarisomus and lives through Northteast India until Southeast Asia. These insect eaters fourage mostly in small flocks. And it is believed that they are cooperative breeders!

This shinny flying treasure is a Himalayan monal (lophophorus impejanus). Very rare in the wild because it was hunted for it's feathers. The feathers were used for ceremonial clothing. Now they are protected in the wild and very abundant in captivity.

This is an Ocellated turkey (Meleagris ocellata) they are edemic to the Yucatán peninsula and related to the turkey most of us eat with X-mas.
