Meeting Davide Morosinotto at Crossing Border Kids this morning was so interesting and exciting. Davide spoke to us about his writing and research process, how he found old maps of New York city and real characters that inspired the story in his book "The legendary treasure of HellGate" based on the historic shipreck of the HMS Hussar. The book follows a bunch of kids as they look for treasure following a key and a drawing that they find on a matchbox. Afterwards Davide led a story-making workshop with the participants where children ended up with a science-fiction scenario: "A year without grown-ups", where suddenly all the adults disappear, children have to organize themselves, the adults are in another dimension, reflecting into all the implications such a situation would have, investigating, possible solutions....

On Friday 8 May, writer and journalist Davide Morosinotto will visit Crossing Border Kids to talk about his latest book The Legendary Treasure of Hell Gate. Five children find a key inside a matchbox and soon find themselves on the trail of gold bars lying at the bottom of the East River, in the wreck of the British frigate HMS Hussar, which sank in 1780 while navigating the treacherous Hell Gate passage. A true historical event, the foundation of a gripping adventure.

Davide Morosinotto was born in 1980 in northern Italy and wrote his first short story at seventeen. Since then he has published over thirty children's and young adult books, translated into 25 languages. He has received numerous prizes, including the Strega Ragazzi, the Andersen Prize and the Zilveren Griffel. His books place children at the heart of major historical moments.

Segundo dia en la Feria de Bologna: libros sobre como se construye la identidad y lo que pasa despues de la muerte. U xoloxcuintle recordandome a casa y Amandina trenzando a su hija. Escuhar a Jacqueline Woodson y lo que la llevo a escribir. El nuevo Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award es otorgado a Jon Klasen. La presentacion del colectivo de autores, ilustradores y promotores de lectura "Impossibles". Y un recorrido historico sobre libros ilustrados con fotografia desde sus inicios.

Primer dia en la feria del libro de Bologna. Escuchar con orgullo el proceso de los ganadores (todos hispanohablantes!) del premio BRAW en las categorias Fiction y Toddler: Fran Pintadera, Raquel Catalina, Adolfo Cordova y Mariana Alcantara, con "Ingravida' y "Rio Viento" respectivamente Reflexiones sobre practicas en promocion de lectura y sobretodo, como compartir el placer por la lectura con los ninos. Una de las estrategias mencionadas es contar con un especialista en literatura infantil en cada escuela, dejar a los ninos elegir sus lecturas y tener un tiempo designado a la lectura cada dia. La relevancia de los cuentos de hadas, como han siempre ayudado a combatir la oscuridad. Y oscuridad es lo que retratan con sus palabras y dibujos los ninos de Palestina en "Lexicon of a genocide". Un diccionario de nuevas definiciones, ilustrado por los mismos ninos, describiendo la realidad que son forzados a vivir, el robo de su inocencia. Y el anuncio del Hans Christian Andersen a Michael Rosen y Cai Gao. One of the most remarkable and imortant projects I saw at the Bologna Children's book fair today: "Lexicon of a genocide" by the Tamer Institute of Palestine. The Lexicon of Genocide is a book that will be published in both Arabic and English and It is the outcome of writing and drawing paths carried out with children in northern and central Gaza during the genocide, and siege imposed on the Gaza Strip. These beautiful children making sense of reality is resistance. Not simply describing but bringing testimony to how they live and understand. The Lexicon of Genocide is not a linguistic dictionary in the traditional sense, but rather a record of vocabulary that grew among the rubble and turned into an intimate detail from the diaries of children of Gaza. It is an attempt to understand children's language when it expresses fear, loss, horror, and waiting, and when it is no longer able to reshape the life that is snatched from their hands and reformulated again. Thanks to everyone who took part in the Street art and Muralism workshop with Ed Oner around his book "Buscando a Ahmed" (written by Jesus Ballaz) at Border Kitchen last Sunday. It was a very inspiring conversation: becomig an artist, the experience of migrating, representing and including cultural symbols. Later children designed their own murals and took part in a latge scale collective painting. Such a fun day . .oner
