Yamane Seigan didn’t grow up at the wheel. Born in Hagi in 1952, he taught himself clay, glaze and firing from 1987, far from any formal apprenticeship.

What followed was years of patient experimenting with blue glazes on Hagi clay. In 2002, he completed the glaze that now carries his name: Seigan Blue.

Look closely and you’ll see navy, sky blue, brown and black shifting with the light. Every piece is a little different, shaped by the same soft, porous clay that has defined Hagi-yaki for over 400 years.
We’re honoured to bring a few of his pieces to Europe. 💙
