You donโ€™t need to call yourself a poet. You donโ€™t need experience with writing, performing or any of the practices weโ€™ll explore. Poetry Nest is for people who are curious to experiment, express, listen, play and discover what can happen when words meet the body, the voice and other people.

Across three days, different facilitators will invite us into their practices, with time in between for shared meals, conversations, being outside and simply being together. ๐ŸŒฟ

Meeting Mai Nambooze, who works with care leavers in Uganda - Association of Care Leavers Uganda - ACLU, reminded me how much we can learn when we step outside our own context. We found ourselves asking many of the same questions, despite working in different parts of the world, and left our conversation excited to explore how our organisations can learn from and contribute to each other's work.

Some partnerships begin with a simple message... and with a lot of curiosity on the receiving end. ๐ŸŒโœจ

๐ŸŒฟ Expanding the Nest ๐ŸŒฟ

Our final day of Poetry Nest began by opening the nest to the local community.

A few guests accepted our invitation to join us for a creative gathering, where we explored how movement, creative writing, sharing, and reflection can support connection within groups. Together, we experienced some of the methods that had been developed, adapted, and refined throughout the exchange. Thank you to everyone who joined us and trusted the process.

The rest of the day was dedicated to bringing our own journey to a close. We completed final recordings, reflected on the learning and experiences of the past days, and took time to acknowledge what each person had contributed to this shared process.

Over the course of the exchange, we created poems, designed and tested workshops, exchanged practices, received feedback, and explored how creativity can support our work as youth workers and community builders. We also built relationships that will continue beyond this project and strengthened the collaboration between our two organisations.

As we prepare to return home, we do so with new ideas, practical tools, fresh inspiration, and a deeper understanding of how poetry, embodiment, and creative expression can enrich youth work and community engagement.

This may be the end of our time together in Greece, but it is only the beginning of what these ideas, methods, and collaborations can become in the communities we return to.

Thank you for following our journey. More will grow from this nest. ๐Ÿชถ

๐ŸŒฟ Deepening the Nest ๐ŸŒฟ

Over the past two days, we have continued exploring what it means to learn, create, and grow together as youth workers and community builders.

Our mornings began with movement and stretching, helping us arrive fully in our bodies before stepping into the dayโ€™s activities. From there, we participated in each otherโ€™s workshops, experiencing a wide range of creative approaches and facilitation styles. These sessions offered inspiration and the opportunity to exchange expertise, share feedback, and reflect on how these methods might be adapted and applied in our own communities.

Alongside the workshops, we dedicated time to reconnecting with the poems that have emerged throughout this journey. Through visualisation, individual writing time, and collective reflection, we listened to what these texts still needed and how they could be further developed.

An important part of the process has been imagining what happens after Poetry Nest. Together, we have been dreaming about how these workshops, methods, and creative tools can continue living beyond this temporary nest and find their place in future youth work initiatives.

We also began rehearsing and filming the first poems with our videographer. This stage has been an exploration in itself, experimenting with different settings, backgrounds, and ways of bringing the essence of each poem to life through voice, presence, and image.

Between workshops, poems, conversations, rehearsals, and shared meals, we are slowly building something that we will carry back into our communities long after this exchange comes to an end.

๐ŸŒฟ Deepening the Nest ๐ŸŒฟ

After a day of exploration and rest, we returned to our journey together and entered the next phase of Poetry Nest: Deepening the Nest.

This phase invites us to slow down and look a little deeper, both at ourselves and at the ways we show up in our work as youth workers, facilitators, and community builders.

During the day, we participated in a session on voice and dance expression facilitated by one of our team members, who brings many years of experience in this field. Through movement, breath, and vocal exploration, we worked with the theme of gratitude, reflecting on the people, moments, and experiences that nourish us.

Gratitude is not only a personal practice. It is also a valuable tool in youth work. It helps create space for reflection, strengthens resilience, and encourages young people to recognise the resources, relationships, and small moments of support that exist in their lives.

The session offered a meaningful blend of artistic expression and personal reflection, showing how creative practices can support both individual wellbeing and professional development. It reminded us of the importance of voice, not only as a means of communication, but also as a way of being present, authentic, and available to others.

As we continue deepening the nest, we carry these reflections with us into the next part of our journey. ๐Ÿชถ

๐ŸŒฟ Resting the Nest ๐ŸŒฟ

The work we do matters. And just as important is how we take care of ourselves while doing it.
As youth workers, facilitators, and community builders, we often spend our energy creating spaces for others. This day was an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and enjoy time together outside the programme.

We explored the area around our nest, visited the Eupalinian Aqueduct, wandered through the streets of Pythagoreio, and discovered local places such as a family-run honey farm and shop.

These experiences may not always look like โ€œworkโ€, but they are an important part of building trust, strengthening relationships, and finding inspiration for the days ahead. Rest, curiosity, and connection are also part of sustainable youth work.

Tomorrow, we return to the nest with fresh energy, ready to continue weaving ideas, methods, and experiences together. ๐Ÿชถ

How many stories remain hidden,
while someone out there needed to hear them?

We are all full of stories.

Stories that shaped us.
Stories that changed us.
Stories that never had the space to come to life.

This gathering is an invitation to slow down and reconnect with yourself through your unique story, and to witness the stories of others.

A cozy afternoon of reflection, writing, and sharing.

Program:
โ€ข Arrival
โ€ข Connecting with yourself
โ€ข Connecting with others
โ€ข Writing your story
โ€ข Sharing your story

No writing experience is needed.
Just bring your curiosity.

๐ŸŒฟ Weaving the Nest ๐ŸŒฟ
A new day, a new opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Our day began early on the beach, patiently waiting for the sunrise. As the first light appeared over the sea, we took a moment to slow down, reflect, and welcome the day together.

Energised, we returned to our nest and began the next stage of our journey. Standing at the doorstep of Weaving the Nest, we started sharing the sessions we had designed for one another, offering our colleagues a glimpse into the practices, ideas, and creative approaches that shape our work.

Throughout the day, we explored poetry, movement, storytelling, and embodied practices, learning not only from the facilitators but also from the different perspectives and experiences present in the group.

In the afternoon, we joined forces to co-create the gathering we will soon offer to the local community, weaving together our ideas, strengths, and inspirations into a shared experience.

We ended the day around a table in a local Greek taverna, sharing food, conversations, and laughter. A reminder that learning also happens in the spaces between the sessions, where relationships deepen and community takes shape.

More weaving awaits in the upcoming days. ๐Ÿชถ

[Poetry Nest]
๐ŸŒฟ Entering the Nest ๐ŸŒฟ

The first phase of Poetry Nest has begun.
Over the past days, we have arrived from Greece and the Netherlands, settled into this beautiful corner by the sea, and started getting to know one another through the stories, experiences, values, and practices that shape our work and our lives.

Through movement, storytelling, writing, reflection, we have begun creating the foundations of the nest: trust, presence, curiosity, and care.

We have explored the space around us, shared pieces of our journeys, and mapped the learning arc that will guide us through the days ahead.

As we slowly close the chapter of Entering the Nest, we find ourselves standing at the threshold of the next phase: Building the Nest.

We are excited to discover the gifts, practices, ideas, and experiences that each person brings to this collective space, and to begin weaving them into something new together.

More to come. ๐Ÿชถ
