G-stage, The big thing!
Every incoming bulb lot is assessed to determine its G-stage, a critical developmental milestone before temperature or cooling treatments can begin.
The process starts with a representative sample of bulbs. Each bulb is carefully cut open, and the flower bud is examined under a microscope to evaluate its internal floral development.
The G-stage (derived from the Greek gynoecium) is reached when the pistil is fully developed and clearly visible. Only when every bulb in the sample has
reached this stage is the entire lot ready for the next phase of the production process.
Accurate G-stage determination is essential for successful temperature programming, uniform flowering, and consistent crop quality. It remains one
of the most important quality control steps in professional tulip bulb production.
