Sometimes, the greatest adventures begin in the simplest way.
On September 16, 2018, my sister and I started walking the Pieterpad, the Netherlands' most famous long-distance trail. We had very little hiking experience and no detailed plan. We simply put on our walking shoes and set off, curious to see where the journey would take us.
What followed was a journey that changed my life.
Along the way, we experienced every season. We walked through freezing temperatures, followed dusty trails on hot summer days, faced heavy rain, and above all enjoyed beautiful landscapes, peaceful surroundings, and many unforgettable encounters.
After several months of walking the trail in stages, we reached the finish in Pieterburen on August 3, 2019. It was a special moment that we will never forget.
Looking back at the photos from that year, I don't just see the stunning scenery. I also see how much we changed along the way. Even my haircolour tells the story of a year filled with hiking adventures ๐.
Some photos hold an extra special meaning. One shows the famous monk reminding visitors to keep quiet in my hometown of Venlo. Another captures the most beautiful trail marker I have ever come across, also found there.
That first journey along the Pieterpad turned out to be much more than completing a long-distance trail. It marked the beginning of a passion for hiking that eventually grew into ๐ช๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป and later ๐ข๐๐๐ฑ๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ป๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ. What started as one walk became a mission to inspire others and help them keep the memories of their own adventures alive.
