Last week I hiked the 𝗪𝗶𝗷𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 in Belgium
A trail of around 110 kilometers through the unique landscape of De Wijers, also known as the land of 1001 ponds.

On paper it may seem like an “easy” route because there are hardly any elevation changes… but don’t underestimate it
With five stages of more than 20 kilometers each day, it still turned out to be quite a challenging and intense hike.

Along the way we enjoyed peaceful nature, forests, water, and of course countless ponds. It’s truly an area with its own special atmosphere.

Last day of our walking midweek 👣

I set off alone; Judith joins later due to a nasty blister. Thanks to a shortcut, she skips 5 km — much better for her feet — and soon we’re walking together again.

It’s a beautiful, sunny day: blue skies, fresh green leaves, forests and ponds. We cross the Albert Canal via a lovely bridge with a winding wooden boardwalk, and even help a cockchafer back onto its feet 🐞

“Cycling Through Water” is busy because of the public holiday, but still a special sight — with swans swimming alongside us.

After a late lunch at Koe-vert, we walk on to Kiewit station, where Wim is waiting with our belongings. A quick drink, a chat, and then home.

20 km today. A great week! 🙌
