Asters really come into their own when so much else in the garden is starting to slow down.

In this reel we’re showing two lovely varieties, Aster White Ladies and Aster Pastel Mix. One gives you crisp white flowers, the other a softer mix of colours, and both are brilliant for adding fresh late season interest to borders.

Myrtle’s Folly is one of those dahlias you end up looking at twice.

The petals are twisted and finely split at the tips, giving the flowers a loose, almost feathery look, while the mix of pink, coral and warm golden tones makes every bloom feel slightly different.

A brilliant choice if you like dahlias with plenty of character and a less formal shape.

Prairie Mallow Is A Magnet For Bees 🐝

Prairie Mallow is botanically known as Sidalcea. Its open pink flowers make it easy for pollinators to reach the nectar and pollen, so the plants are often buzzing with activity when in bloom.

A lovely perennial for sunny borders if you want plenty of colour while also giving bees a useful source of food.

Dahlia La Luna is one of those varieties that seems to look a little different every time you see it. Some flowers open creamy yellow, while others come through much richer and more golden.

The blooms are large and full, with that unmistakable dinnerplate look, held on plants that reach around 80 to 100 cm. It flowers from summer into early autumn and is also a great one to cut for the vase.

A dahlia with plenty of presence, but still surprisingly easy to mix with other colours in the garden.

Dahlia Emory Paul is all about size. The blooms can become absolutely enormous, the kind of dahlia that makes everything around it look small.

It is one of those varieties you almost have to see in person to appreciate properly. Big, full flowers with real presence, and definitely one for anyone who believes a dahlia can never be too large.

Dahlia Preference is one of those dahlias that always gets people asking, “What variety is that?”

Its flowers are a gorgeous mix of soft peach, apricot and salmon pink, with deeper colour towards the centre. The pointed cactus petals give each bloom a wonderfully full, textured look.

Beautiful in the border and just as lovely cut for a vase.

Sanguisorba, commonly known as burnet or great burnet, brings something a little different to the garden. Its slender stems are topped with distinctive bottlebrush flowers that seem to float above the foliage, adding height and movement without feeling heavy.
