Conquest cup 2026 resulted in no less than three new Turkish national flight records - all shot with bows from Kviljo buemakeri. Also, in both synthetic classes, the first Turkish shots past 500 for the ladies and 600 meters for the men! Big respect to the strong and skilled archers who shot solid distances against the wind! 👏

546,75 meters - a new personal best with Turkish setup - with authentic siper, mushamma and thumb ring, and only 82 pounds draw weight on a non-timar Turkish Sinirsek horn/sinew composite that I started in 2020.

Chinese "Chu-ko-nu", or repeating crossbow. This one was made in 2009. It was made according to the drawings in Ralph Payne Gallweys book "The crossbow" from 1903.

Ps. As it does not lock into full draw, it is per definition not a crossbow, and therefore legal.

This 35 # glass fiber laminated bow (left) shot 390 meters today, with a splitcane arrow with paper fletches. _Kind of_ a new world record in the Modern asiatic class 🥳

492 meters in the 50-pound limited category at the Conquest Cup in Istanbul last Wednesday! Coincidentally I shot 492 meters too when practising for the event, but with a different arrow. Good fun! Two arrows reaching this distance ought to indicate that 500 is possible too, even below 50 pounds! Something for next year 😄🏹

An Ottoman flight bow of 88 pounds at 27 inches. It is covered with birch bark and leather, in the traditional pattern for flight bows of the early 1700s.
