We say “Made in rural India” but what does it actually mean?
It means looking beyond factories and cities and recognizing the communities where materials are grown, skills are preserved, and livelihoods are built.
Rural India is home to a rich diversity of plant-based materials and traditional skills, it’s also where many artisans and small producers work closest to the land, using locally available materials and knowledge passed down over generations.
Producing in rural regions allows work opportunities to stay within local communities, supporting long-term development. It creates value where resources already exist, rather than moving production far away from the people and places connected to them.
So when we say “made in rural India,” we’re talking about place, people, and partnership- acknowledging the origin of both the product and the impact behind it.
