Most of you have probably caught on by now, either from our job posting or seeing me in the shop, but I am very pregnant (see photographic evidence above) and today is my last day at work!

(Granted, I’ve been sitting down a lot behind the desk so some people have been startled by this news, and others even thought I’d already given birth!)

Writing this today, on my last day for a quite a while, I’m feeling more emotional than I expected. Although I am extremely grateful I get to take such a long time off, it’s definitely bittersweet (vemodig, which is an even better word maybe in Norwegian) to be leaving the shop for the next months.

I opened the doors of Prismatic Pages in December 2023, but the actual business was created as a legal entity in September 2023. I quit my job right around this time about three years ago. It feels like a much longer journey than that. So much has happened that it’s a bit hard to believe.

And now, I’m leaving it in the extremely capable hands of Maria as manager (you already know her of course), Paige, Anne, and Emma. I have complete faith they will steer the ship well while I’m away.

I’ll miss you all and my work immensely, but I’m looking forward to seeing Prismatic Pages thrive when I’m not the main driver. I have always thought that the greatest sign of a business flourishing is when it does not rely on any one person and can adapt to new circumstances and changes. I’m grateful that this business, my first baby really, is now going to stand on its own two feet.

In the immortal words of Douglas Adams: “So long, and thanks for all the fish!” (The fish in this case are bookshop chats, recommendations, passionate conversations, and support for the community we’ve built—all of which I hope will continue stronger than ever while I’m gone!)

For our September Future Library book club we are reading The Morning Star by Karl Over Knausgaard. This mysterious, strange, and wholly unique novel fits in well with the ongoing themes of time and speculation the Future Library evokes.

If you want to join visit shop.prismaticpages.com to buy your ticket, which includes a copy of the book! There are still spots available and time to read before we meet on September 16.

Prismatic Pages and Prismatic Press were written about in Publishers Weekly!

The article by Ed Nawotka covers our expansion from being Oslo's only English language bookstore into now also being a publishing house.

It also mentions something we've only teased so far: Prismatic Pals, our new membership program. Stay tuned for more...

I (Indigo) am incredibly proud of how far we have come. Publishers Weekly is an industry publication that is internationally read and respected, and I could hardly dream of this kind of recognition when I started the bookshop. It isn't often I sit back and enjoy our success so far, but this felt like a moment to savor.

Thank you all for your support over the last (almost) three years. We're still here thanks to customers and cheerleaders old and new! Can't wait to see what the future holds.

We were honored to have the opportunity to be part of Future Library Handover this year! June 28th Tommy Orange and Amitav Ghosh gave their secret manuscripts over to be stored safely in Deichman Bjørvika. These books won't be published until the year 2114! It's an extraordinary artwork.

Luckily, both of them have several books which are available to read now, and we have extra signed copies in the shop! Drop by to get yours while they're in stock 📚
