Ten books is a lot to ask a seven-year-old to sit through. I know that. So does Helge, and he wrote it anyway — because growing up doesn't happen in one chapter, and he wasn't willing to pretend it does.

Book 1, Tsar can barely stand. Book 5, he's sitting alone in a field convinced he's ruined everything, listing every mistake he's made, thinking about leaving. Some pages get requested so often the spine starts to remember the place. Being wrong is the part most stories skip. Tsar didn't like Teodor. He'd made up his mind before he knew him — decided he was dangerous, decided he was the problem. Easier that way.
