I was asked by if I could build a couple of plate carriers for the Sykehuset Innlandet Prehospital (the civilian EMS service) team for this years competition. Mostly as a proof of concept of an adaptable carrier that could be used in an EMS service, which could fit various sized plates and various sized people with as few variations as possible.
The front carrier is placard compatible, and I supplied the team with a PALS placard as well as 3 prototypes of a medic placard (basically a large utility pouch with some organization) in addition to a few TQ pouches each. The back of the carrier is fully covered in PALS. There are loop fields on the front and back for ID patches.
Crye SPC style elastic plate bag with exposed plates (which I have no issue with for civie use) allowed the team to use plates from 10x12s, M07 and even thin ESAPI sized plates in the same carrier. The shoulder straps attach via hook and loop, so the angle is possible to custom set by the users, or replaced with a quick release solution if needed. A simple elastic cummerbund does the trick. The interior is lined with 2 strips of loop, to be able to attach additional comfort padding.
Anyway, NMC was a blast, big thanks to for bringing a GI Joe in full Fallujah field uniform for me to display the PC on, and to for keeping me company. And everyone else who helped me out with stuff and things, and to those of you who came by to talk shop or s**t.
I’ll be back next year!
