We often delay starting our goals until the perfect moment arrives. We wait for less hectic work, more time, less tiredness, everything else to be sorted and for us to feel fully prepared.
However, the reality is that something else will always arise. There’s always another deadline, another plan, another responsibility, another reason why today isn’t ideal.
Perhaps this is why we keep postponing the things we want to do.
We want to start reading but lack an hour, so we don’t. We want to take a walk after dinner but don’t have 45 minutes, so we don’t. We want to create, learn, exercise, journal or spend time with ourselves, but we imagine what doing it properly should look like. When we can’t do everything, we do nothing.
But what if we stopped thinking in terms of all or nothing?
What if five pages, ten minutes or twenty minutes counted? What if some days we do more, some days less and some days not at all, but we simply return to it when we can?
Perhaps consistency isn’t about finding the perfect routine. It’s about learning to make room for what matters, even when life isn’t perfectly aligned.
Because life probably won’t suddenly become less busy. So don’t wait for the perfect time. Start with the time you have and start wherever you can. And maybe, somewhere along the way, you’ll find your rhythm.
