Winding a bobbin on a portable sewing machine involves placing your thread on the spool pin, routing it through the machine’s tension discs, and securing it to the bobbin before engaging the winder. Here are the general steps for winding a bobbin on most portable sewing machines:
1. Set up the thread Place your spool of thread onto the spool pin and secure it with a spool cap if your machine requires one.
2. Route through the tension disc Pull the thread from the spool and wrap it around the bobbin winder tension disc (usually located on the top left of the machine). Make sure the thread is seated snugly between the discs.
Prepare the bobbin Take the end of the thread and pass it through the small hole on the top of your empty bobbin from the inside out. If your bobbin does not have a hole, wrap the thread around the center of the bobbin a few times manually.
3. Engage the winder Place the bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle (usually on the top right) and push the spindle to the right until it clicks. This disengages the needle and prepares the machine to wind.
4. Wind the bobbin Hold the thread tail securely and gently press your foot pedal or the start button. After a few rotations, you can stop briefly to trim the excess thread tail before continuing until the bobbin is full.
5. Remove and finish Most machines will automatically stop or slow down when the bobbin is full. Slide the spindle back to the left, cut the thread, and remove your full bobbin.
