Swayambhunath is very close to where I was born, so this sacred hill holds many memories for me.

The name “Swayambhu” comes from Sanskrit and means “self-arisen” or “self-created.” Spiritually, it points to something that exists by its own divine nature, not made by human hands. In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, it carries a deeper meaning of inner awakening and the eternal light of wisdom that naturally exists within all beings.

I often walked here in the mornings. The long stairway was tiring, but even before reaching the top, there was already a quiet feeling within the journey.

This place is more than a visit.
It is memory, blessing, and a gentle reminder of where the journey began.

There's a kind of silence at Kapan that isn't quiet — it's full. Full of wind, of billowing flags, of prayers woven into fabric and carried somewhere you can't see. You don't find peace here. You remember it.

Jomsom • Kagbeni • On the route to Lo Manthang (Part 1)

As we travelled through the mountains of Nepal, along ancient paths, sacred valleys, windswept villages, and places where prayer flags move gently with the wind, one feeling became very clear: the further we move away from nature, the further peace seems to move away from us.

Here, life is simple, but never empty. People live with less, yet carry so much warmth. Their smiles are gentle, their hearts are humble, and their happiness does not seem to depend on having more, but on being deeply connected to what is already around them.

The mountains, the silence, the monasteries, the sound of the wind, and the kindness of people reminded us that peace is not something we chase. It is something we return to.
