What is MGO? It’s something we talk about a lot here at The True Honey Co., but… what does it actually mean?⁠

MGO stands for methylglyoxal – a naturally occurring compound found in mānuka honey that originates from the nectar of the mānuka flower and gives mānuka honey its unique antibacterial properties. ⁠
⁠
The higher the MGO rating, the stronger the antibacterial activity of the mānuka honey. ⁠
⁠
For example, 300+ MGO contains at least 300mg of methyglyoxal per kilogram of mānuka honey, while higher ratings like 1500+ MGO and 2100+ MGO indicate an extremely high potency that not many companies can achieve.⁠
