What a view from the lofty heights of my shop roof!! I should have taken more photos but I was up there under the direction of my brother to try and locate a leak in the roof !! It was such a calm day yesterday no wind and I even put out the frost clothe which was not needed as this morning we just back to windy Manawatu πŸ’¨

I did get a beautiful photo of the moon and planets later in the evening, winter Solstice peace to the world ✨🌏✨

Open today 9-4 see you soon βœ¨πŸ’šπŸͺπŸŒ±

Yesterday was another big day spreading sawdust and heeling in the hazelnuts, figs and grapes. I had β€œBoss cat Frankie” supervising!! Wish he would pick up a shovel and help.

I did have a wee moment when I was moving sawdust and came across this glove 🧀! When Glenn dropped off the sawdust he was telling me all about his mulcher (he makes compost for a living) it’s so big it’s not even called a mulcher it’s a called a pulveriser πŸ€ͺI did joke about how it would be a good way to dispatch someone. Glenn’s answer was β€œnah to messy, I would just bury them in the compost” ……..then I found the gloveπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ It gave me a good giggle and nope no hand inside the glove !!! The places my mind goes!

Delighted to say that the Kyoho grape is back in stock and looking amazing after being absent for about 2 years. I have this grape in my shade house and it’s superb, huge grapes πŸ‡ the size of small plums and delicious, so much lovely jelly like texture.

Open this week Wednesday to Saturday 9-4 🌱πŸͺπŸŒ±

Beautiful morning Edible Garden Ltd this morning, very light frost on the ground. So pleased I spent 10 minutes covering everything up under frost cloth last night. Normally I would not worry inside my shade house but the Avocados are such newbies I thought I better β€œtuck them up” oh and that Banana of mine. I have got quite atttached to him so will try and nurse him through the frosts! The things we do πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Just a reminder I am closing at 2 pm today as we are off to Wellies to watch a certain rugby semi final πŸ’™πŸ‰ so proud of you Flyn.

So come and see me bright and early and have a wonderful weekend everyone 🌱 πŸͺ

What a day yesterday at Edible Garden, deliveries left right and centre, poor customers even got trapped here for a while πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ They did not mind in the least.

I got so busy I forgot to capture the beautiful new avocados arriving but safely tucked up in the shade house. A big order left yesterday so made some much needed space appear for the Avocados πŸ₯‘.

Next to arrive were the first of the field grown grapes, πŸ‡ the roots on these babies are enormous. I will get around to a comparison of field grown over pot grown, and explain size, price etc in a day or so. Just got these settled into sawdust beds oh that new sawdust is awesome! Then final delivery of the day was new packing supplies and the new pallet of Oceanfert from Grosafe NZ which was super timely as we had completely sold out.

Also restocked is the Enspray 99 in the 300ml ready to spray pack. This is an awesome product as the spray is so fine which is ideal for gnarly little whitefly and aphids especially in a glass house. (Video in comments) The best thing is you can target pests specifically and accurately as the spray container can be inverted to spray up under the leaves to target those tricky pests. Also it’s refillable so once you have used up all the spray pop in to get a refill in either 100ml or 200ml and away you go again. I still have my original container (although it has a few dog dents where Lola carried it around!!)

Phew might be a day to catch up on emails! Open today and Friday 9-4 and Saturday 9-2 (sorry closing early as a rugby semi final to watch πŸ’™)

Big final push to get everything ticked βœ… off as far as winter preparation goes for the nursery. But I do feel a little bit jaded as my unofficial organic status means no nasties to get rid of weeds so it’s all hand weeding and cultivation. Just as I was about to loose the will to carry on yesterday my angel β€œAngela” turns up to help with that last little push. Honestly a friendly face and a bit of chat and the job was done , thank you. Not that all my animal friends didn’t keep me entertained. I let Tussock 🐴 out to have a sneaky bite of fresh grass but he took liberties and had a munch on some trees so was promptly banned!!!! The calves thought the whole thing was rather entertaining and were keen to join the antics but I know that the chaos would have been too much, combined with one blind hunterway and one loopy choclate Labrador!!!!

Sawdust arrived just in time as more trees arrive today πŸ’ͺ πŸͺ

Looking forward to seeing you this week we are open Wednesday to Saturday 9-4 πŸ’šπŸŒ±

Well feels like winter might have arrived!, it was a haul to get myself motivated this morning. An early start (these dark mornings get to me) to get young man no. 1 to the airport, get myself motivation in a cup, yes coffee πŸ˜‚β˜•οΈ Then time to pop the open sign out and what do I spy a beautiful rainbow 🌈 Faith restored in the day ahead.

Lots of enquires and chat about the NEW Apple/pear β€œPapple” this week that featured on the TV and live in the supermarket near you. Can we supply them NO, can we grow them ourselves as a home gardener NO. Are they delicious YES. Have I got an alternative I can offer you YES not πŸ’― the same but pretty good never the less. We have the pear apple cross Reddy Robin 🍎🍐 marketed as a Nashi but in essence it’s a Papple πŸ‘ Or even better we have the ancient heritage pear Keifer which is likely a cross between a Chinese pear and a European pear 🍐 which is large, super juicy (thirst quenchers) This is hands down my favourite pear and in my top 5 if all fruit trees. It’s the first to flower in the season but the last fruit to ripen, beautiful fruit, self fertile, hardy , stunning autumn foliage and did I say delicious.

I have both Nashi Reddy Robin and Pear Keifer available now @$50.00 each which one will you try? Open today Saturday 9-4 🍎🍐🍎🍐

It was a pleasure to welcome the wonderful Wahine of the Te Kawau Garden Group yesterday. The weather mostly held it together and we had a wonderful morning talking about the Edible Garden journey over the years. We also chatted about my favourite fruit trees, why growing our own is so important, organics, a budding demonstration and lots of questions. Thank you for visiting and my lovely gift and of course the delish morning tea.

We have just restocked the Kath Irvine Edible Backyard pruning book, at @$30.00 it’s a little gem, practical, not over whelming and best of all Kath’s fantastic solid knowledge. We also have new stocks of β€œHome Grown Fruit” @$58.00 by Kath and Jason Ross Habitate - edible habitats it’s the go to inspiration and practical guide to setting up your orchard, backyard planting or fruit forest 🍎🍏

Open this week Wednesday to Saturday 9-4 see you soon 🍏🍎

Wildlife to start the week at Edible Garden, hard to believe we are now officially into winter. The long weekend afforded us some lovely weather and a chance to pause and soak up the lovely autumn rays.

It was also a time to tick βœ… off a few of those long overdue jobs that somehow fade into the background! Yes tidying the packing shed, burning the rubbish pile, and a bit more sorting of the sawdust beds (yes I mean weeding!!!)

Open this week as usual Wednesday to Saturday 9-4 but if possible avoid Thursday morning as we have the lovely Rongotea Garden Club visiting us in the morning.

Have a great short week and I look forward to seeing you all πŸ’š πŸͺ 🌱
