Happy New Year πŸ₯³

It's been almost 2 months since we welcomed the newest member of our family πŸ’•. The littlest is an absolute sweetheart and the smiles and coos have made any harder moments worthwhile. After a lovely Xmas with family, we'll head away for a few days later this week - if anyone has any tips for travelling with a newly-out-of-nappies toddler and a 2 month old please let me know!

I've been a little quiet on here for much of this year...for the lovely reason that our family is growing by another baby girl πŸŽ€. It's been a slightly more challenging pregnancy this time around and now with the seemingly endless lockdown here in Auckland, I have found everything a little bit harder.

However, I have been working away in the background for my little side business and I'll be sharing it with you over the next couple of months (cautious optimism that I'll find my groove with a new baby, a toddler, a tween and a husband part-way through his MBA πŸ™ˆ).

Thank you for being here and I am very excited to share more with you soon ❀️.

Saw this idea on the page recently and thought it looked like perfect fun! We kept it out for a few days and kept coming back to play. Ps our rainbow rice has been going strong for well over a year now 🌈.

Miss 2.5 was very excited to find some beads this week so we did a little threading practice with them (using chenille sticks). She hasn't shown much interest in threading up until now so I was pleasantly surprised with how much she enjoyed this 😍.

This activity was closely supervised to make sure no beads made their way into her mouth/nose/ear (unlike the tiny pom pom she found outside that made it's way into her nose over the weekend...just when I thought we'd moved on from that phase πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ).

We've been struggling with illness at home the last couple of weeks and Miss 2.5 has sadly not been feeling much like playing. We are starting to see more of her playful nature coming through so I set up a quick farm sensory play invitation today (anything to try and delay another episode of Paw Patrol!).

Just some dyed rice and corn with our Little People farm animals and a few accessories. Straight away her focus was on feeding the farm animals with small piles of corn making their way to the carpet! She seemed delighted to have something set-up for her so I'll leave it out for the next few days and see what else she comes up with ❀️.

A fun set up before I head off to work today (as there is nowhere to go today and the rain is coming down). Using our dough (which smells yummy!). Our youngest has been very interested in scissors lately (😬) and I have found cutting dough is a wonderful place for her to start.

Present me was very grateful for past me setting this up yesterday!

Little one was very tired today so I set out this "jelly sea life rescue" in the afternoon and she played solidly for 45 minutes without needing to be attached to me!

Not only was she entertained but there was so much learning!

- Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination: using the tongs and scoops to rescue the sea life
Vocabulary: naming the sea life as they were rescued, describing the feeling of the jelly, and identifying colours
- Problem solving: figuring out another way to pick the items up when she was struggling with the tongs

What is sensory play?

Sensory play is any activity that stimulates or engages children’s senses – sight, touch, smell, sound, movement, and balance.

Children learn best when they can touch and feel something. Sensory play supports the development of language and communication, problem solving skills, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and most importantly children have fun while doing it!

Our sensory bins provide you with a tool to use when you need one – maybe your children need some help kick-starting their play, you might need to get some work done, or maybe you just want to sit back and have a moment of peace. Whatever the reason, you have a play opportunity ready to set-up in minutes.

Keep your eyes peeled for our next sensory bin!

Using our taste safe dirt from the spring sensory kit for something a little different in the morning. Our littlest loves diggers 🚧 so I have included our well loved little yellow digger books for her as well.

The sensory bases and accessories in our kits can be used in so many ways 😊.
