Volunteering is on again this Friday where we will be teaching volunteers how to 'prick out' seedlings. Pricking out is the process of carefully separating out young seedlings and transplanting them into their own space so they have room to grow healthy and strong! No experience is needed - we'll show you how it's done and afterwards join us for a cuppa and a treat. All are welcome and even if you can't make it for the whole time, feel free to come say hello.

When: Friday from 12pm-2pm
Where: Ngā Hua o Oranga, Fergusson Domain (off Namata Road)

The Compost Hub is Moving!

Our Compost Hub is moving to our new community garden, Ngā Hua o Oranga, located in Fergusson Domain off Namata Ave.

From 8 August, you can drop off your food scraps in the white buckets located in the clearly marked collection box just outside the garden fence (see the photo below). We'll transform them into nutrient-rich compost to help the new garden thrive.

From 21 August, all food scrap drop-offs must be made at the new garden. The original community garden on Oranga Ave will remain open for harvesting only.

Thank you for helping our garden to grow (and keep waste out of landfill!).

Reminder - we have another working bee on tomorrow morning at 10am at Ngā Hua o Oranga where you can learn all about sowing seeds. Come help us to sow and grow the future plants for the garden! Everyone is welcome.

Volunteering tomorrow!
At: Ngā Hua o Oranga (in Fergusson Domain)
When: 12pm - 1:30pm

Kia Ora all, we will be running our first volunteering session up at the new site tomorrow. Come join us to prick out seedlings and help us setup our new compost box. A great chance to learn about how to setup a compost system from the very beginning. As always we will be finishing with a cuppa and a treat! Hope to see you there.

What an amazing morning! We still have goosebumps from the incredible energy and experience of the blessing of Ngā Hua o Oranga. We are so grateful to have had Matua Paora join us and the amazing support from Amiria Puia-Taylor and musicians. Thank you to everyone who came out to be a part of this special event, including Councillor Josephine Bartley, the representative on behalf of the local board, Auckland Council staff, Onehunga Community Recycling Centre, Te Papapa Onehunga Rugby & Sports Club , Your Place - Tō Wāhi, Oranga Community Centre, Tāmaki WRAP - Waste Reduction Action Project board members, and all our volunteers.

Only 2 sleeps to go until our blessing! We’re so excited to celebrate this special occasion with our community. It means so much to have everyone come together for what will be a truly memorable day. We can’t wait to see you there!

We have unexpectedly had to change the date of the blessing for the new community garden (Ngā Hua o Oranga) at Fergusson Domain.

The blessing is now next Wednesday 5th August 9-10am. Our working bee on Saturday has also changed back to our normal time of 10am-12midday.

We hope to see you all then!

We have a dawn blessing for the new community garden at Fergusson Domain (Ngā Hua o Oranga) on Saturday 8th August at 6:30am and would like to invite you to it! The blessing is followed by a working bee 8:30-10:30am where we will be learning how to grow from seed and start kumara tipu. Come to all of it, part of it or just when you can - whatever works for you.

We have volunteering at the old site (Oranga Ave) this Friday 3rd of July from 12-2pm.

We will be doing some weeding, collecting up compost to move to the new site, and a general tidy.

And of course warming up with a cuppa and a treat at the end!

Even if you can't join us for the whole time, please come down and say hi when you can! Hope to see you then!
