I have mixed feelings about this Bass and have been procrastinating posting it, but on reflection I learned some valuable lessons from doing this project and thought I would share them here...

The catalyst for doing this project was not being able to confidently get parts from overseas at the time due to Covid supply chain disruptions and since I had a bunch of mismatched parts and and old worn out fender style neck I decided to use what I had by making a new body (direct P copy) and refurbish the existing neck and turn it into a fretless.

So, it is now a 'aged' early 60's fretless P Bass with oak veneer fret lines, many many many layers of CA glue coating to fretboard, active EMG pickup and wiring harness and a Schaller bridge.

Lessons learned:
* I did not really like doing a direct copy, but doing it has helped direct my future design decisions.
* I do like the classic body shapes but will always design my own interpretations for the instruments I make.
* There are still fun and creative ideas that can come out of keeping things simple....hopefully I can express these ideas in future builds.

Ok, before you ask, the color is crushed turquoise. I used it to fill holes and splits left after all the big rusty nails were removed. I did not want to disguise anything but rather let it have a bit of a story to it. This NZ Rimu was used as floor joists which I recovered from a demolished Church building. The neck is Blackwood and the fretboard is NZ Northern Rata....

Ok, here is the start of all things as far my very first scratch builds using my own designs are concerned. These two basses were the product of NZ's first L4 Covid lockdown 2020 so for that I can be grateful. I liked these so much I sold my commercial branded basses and these are what I play at the moment. I will do an individual post on each detailing spec and materials used......

Hello, welcome to Beglee Basses. I would love it if you come with me on my journey of designing and building simple, beautiful and great sounding Bass guitars.
Beglee Basses has come to be due to changing life circumstances, inspiration from others who have similar stories and a strong desire to express my creativity in a way that will also help you achieve your musical goals.
Part of the vision for Beglee Basses is to only use NZ native tone woods or exotic species only grown in NZ wherever possible. Using these timbers will truly create a unique 'one off' as you cant source NZ native timbers anywhere else.
As the saying goes 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' so lets start relatively simple and progress from there. If you like what I do then show me some Bass love by liking, following and commenting..........and if at some point you really really like what you see feel free to get in touch.
