What a privilege to be trusted with a very special garment to create two bears preserving a mummas precious memories.

"On March 30th, we held a memorial service for my mother in Australia, where the memorial bears provided us with comfort throughout the ceremony. We appreciate you making these bears; they are extremely meaningful to us."

A Voice That Lives On

This bear was crafted for a client who lost her precious mama—made from her well-worn bathrobe and her high-vis vest. The fabrics that wrapped around her in comfort and kept her safe at work now wrap around a bear that will comfort for years to come.
But along with the clothing, something incredibly precious arrived: a small box containing a recording of her mama's voice. The final reminder of a branch on their family tree. A voice so deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her.

Her mokopuna (grandchildren) will miss her hugs. They'll miss the love she so freely gave—the kind of love that filled a room, that made everyone feel seen and safe.
Now, they can press her heart and hear her voice once again.
Not just a memory. Not just fabric. But her—speaking, comforting, reminding them that love doesn't end. It just changes shape.

Thank you, Jessica Ngaru, for trusting Ataahua Creations with this very special make. It was our absolute pleasure and honor to help preserve your mama's presence in such a tangible, beautiful way.

Love doesn't end. It just changes shape.

If you have a loved one's voice recording, it can be added to a memory bear so their words live on forever. Sometimes, hearing a familiar voice one more time, is the comfort we need most.

A Backup for Love
The first bunny I made for this precious wee girl has become her lifeline. She holds it when she's scared. She whispers to it at night. She clutches Daddy's image stitched on its tummy and reads his words over and over: "If you're worried, scared, or sad, just hold me tight. Forever in your heart, love always Dad."

Her mother messaged me with a request that broke my heart wide open: could I make a second bunny? Because if this one is ever lost or wears out from being loved too hard, she doesn't know how her daughter will survive it.

So I'm making a backup. A twin. An insurance policy against more loss for a little girl who has already lost too much. Because sometimes love needs a safety net. Sometimes grief needs a spare. And sometimes, the most important thing we can do is make sure a child never has to say goodbye twice.

💙 If you know a family navigating loss, a memory keepsake can be a lifeline. And sometimes, two is better than one.

This is Why I Do What I Do 💛

She arrived with a small bag in hand containing just one dress—but that single piece of fabric held a universe of love.
"My beautiful mum who was full of life and her colorful sense of humour. Loved by us all. Mum was the sunshine in our lives."
Six daughters. Nineteen grandchildren. Twenty-nine great-grandchildren. And at the time of her passing, two great-great grandchildren. What an incredible legacy of love.

During our personalization meeting, one of the granddaughters shared a story that made me laugh: she'd accompanied her grandmother to get a tattoo at 80-something years old. A dolphin surrounded by six stars—one for each daughter. We printed that very tattoo on fabric alongside a special poem, weaving her memory into every detail of these bears.

When they saw the finished bears, there were tears. Beautiful, healing tears.
This is exactly where I'm meant to be—helping families preserve precious memories, creating tangible comfort for generations to come, and honoring the lives of those who meant everything.
Each bear carries not just fabric, but stories. Not just stitches, but love that will never fade.

If you have a loved one's clothing tucked away, waiting for the right way to honor their memory, I'd be honored to help you create something meaningful. Something that can be held close. Something that whispers, "I'm still here."

Recieving photos like this from clients always makes my day...

It said " Dad down at the boat races today"

Knowing how what I do makes you feel is my greatest joy. (Well, maybe second to my grand babies - haha)

A Story, A Hug, A Forever Kiss

He read her a story and kissed her goodnight,
One more hug before he turned out the light.
He walked down the stairs and into the shed—
And took his own life in the darkness of night.

Little did she know this was her last story,
Her last hug, her forever goodbye kiss.
How does a mother explain to her little girl
That Daddy won't return, that he'll always be missed?

How does she hold the space for her own grief
While navigating loss with and for her small child?
This bunny was made soft, from plush fabric with care—
A companion to hold when the pain feels too wild.

On its tummy, her father's image is stitched,
With words that will comfort when darkness feels near:
"If you're worried, scared, or sad, just hold me tight.
Forever in your heart, love always Dad." He's here.

I wish he had known that his life truly mattered.
I wish he had seen there was hope in the dark.
I wish he'd not faced those demons alone,
I wish he'd reached out—just one call, just a spark.

He mattered. He was loved. He always will be.

To Those Who Are Struggling:

To All of Us:
💙Let's slow down. Look for signs. Truly listen with our hearts when someone says they're struggling.
💙Put down the devices. Be present. Be with those you love. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is simply showing up and staying.
💙Check in. Ask the hard questions. Sit in the uncomfortable silence. Let them know they're not alone.

Because every life matters. Every story deserves to continue. And sometimes, all it takes is one person who cares enough to stay.

Love doesn't end. It just changes shape.
But let's fight like hell to keep love in its original shape—alive, present, and here with us.

This bunny holds a father's love for his daughter - a forever reminder that he loved her. Completely. Always.

Teaching the next generation old skills is both a pleasure and a privilege.

Miss 3½ often asks, “Nannie, can you make this for me?” This time, I told her she could help — and help she did.

She chose the fabric and helped me cut the squares. She sat so patiently at the sewing machine, guiding the fabric through, pressing the back-stitch button, and lifting the foot at the end. With my tiny snips, she carefully cut the loose threads.

She was so proud to step back and inspect her workmanship, another page for her 'quiet book', and I was so honored to sit beside her, watching her grow.

I hope we share many more moments of teaching and learning together — until she can independently create her own designs — and I hope she always remembers these very special times with her Nannie.

My heart is full. 💗🧵

Sheila's Bears
Sheila was little and large at the same time.
Those who knew her knew a loyal, kind, and fiercely generous human who always made sure to pay her way. She gave freely to those she loved, yet found it difficult to receive generosity in return—a trait of someone who valued independence and self-reliance above all.
Her family were everything to her, and I know these seven bears, made for her grandchildren, will be cherished deeply. The spirit of one so fierce lives on in the generations that follow her.
Sheila will be missed dearly. But in truth, she belonged with her beloved—the husband who left her years ago, yet never truly left at all. She toasted him every day at 4 o'clock. She argued with him regularly (even though he was no longer there). And she told him she loved him every single day of her life.

Now, they're together again. And these seven bears will carry Sheila's love forward—holding her grandchildren close, just as she would have.
Love doesn't end. It just changes shape.

These bears are not just fabric once worn. They are love, loyalty, and the fierce devotion of a woman who never stopped loving—even across the veil.

Because every make is a gift to us.

Gift giving has always been my No.1 love language and I LOVE to make others feel special when they receive their project back.
Whether a cloth bag for a bear, or tissue wrapped gorgeousness, your project is valued and deserves to be wrapped.

"Made from clothes I would wear, hold me close and feel me near"

To us we see scraps of fabric, but to Caroline they represent her mother's and father's love.
Gone and never forgotten. Now Caroline can once again snuggle and keep her mum and dad close.

Not just scraps. Love lives there.
Love, in a different shape.
