After a bit of serious thinking and discussion, we’ve decided to close the Freedom Farms page.

We have been pondering this for a couple of months, and largely stopped posting at Christmas time, but the events of the last few days have shown us it’s time to call it quits.

Facebook has some pretty big problems: foreign interference, spam bots, trolls and fame mongers come to mind.

But, for us, the crux of the matter is this: conversations matter. We want to have conversations with people who care about the future of food production in New Zealand. We know a lot of you care deeply about this topic. But the way this platform has evolved doesn’t make for good conversations – many people just end up shouting at each other across a crowded room.

And it’s not just a noisy room, it’s harbouring some pretty yucky thinking too. Sometimes the most unkind voices are also the loudest. That’s not how community is supposed to work.

Are we closing ourselves off? Absolutely not. We want to talk to you. We’re happy to meet with you in our Parnell office to chat about what is on your mind. You can also email us on [email protected] or call us on 09 366 0448.

Heaps and heaps of aroha to each of you who support Freedom Farms. You make us excited to come to work each day. Ngā mihi nui.
