Hi de hi lovely's this Sunday you can find us at the The Village Market Helensville Showgrounds 8.30am till 1pm.

We will have lots of beautiful Dahlia tubers available and lots of special Dahlia seed packs and flower seed packs for spring planting 😍🤩

Along with some new art dragons and all our other beautiful art too.

Your local market day which is held every month on the 3rd sunday at the Helensville Showgrounds with lots of other amazing artist and stallholders,free entertainment, yummy coffee and food, something for everyone to enjoy 🙂

Dahlias has a special set of genetics that allow each seed to be a completely new undiscovered Dahlia
Thats why I love growing them from seed you never know what will pop up and its the surprise when they finally bloom 😀 😍

It may be winter but the blooms are slowly coming back and some winter loving flowers are blooming now 🥰

I love being able to bring to life a little something special for our locals and special requests 🙂

Flowers are the universal language to express a feeling and a way to share with someone giving them support and love ❤️ Flowers are always a special moment 💖

Dahlia dividing time 🤩

Dahlia tuber talk series
Part 4
Next up is dividing dahlia tubers

Grab a cuppa as this is slightly longer clip.

There's no perfect way and some tuber clumps are easy and others are like a mass of tentacles and tubers all rolled together like a maze.

You just need to give it a go and get in there.
But there are things to look for and to make sure you do to get them viable.
1st is look to see if you can spy any eyes around the crown area of the tuber clump.

When I lift them I dont wash them I remove the bigger clumps of dirt I give them a shake and pop them upside down in the sun for a few hours to dry out a bit. Dont pop them straight onto concrete this will dry them out super fast just on the deck or outside table.

Then I store them for a few days in crates then bring them back out over that time they will shrink a little and you can remove excess dirt with a brush or similar I dont wash them as I find it helps them keep better but this is personal preference.

You want to be able to see the crown area which is where the tubers are attached too the stalk and you need some crown attached to the tuber as this is where they eyes grow from and produce the stems to grow from.

I remove and throw away the mother tuber (this is the original tuber you planted and shes done a great job growing more for you but she tired and quite often will rot so best to throw her out).

Then as I cut them I dunk the cut area in cinnamon thus is a great antibacterial and Antifungal to seal the cut.
