Bugg You’ve known us as Gubba, but now we are Bugg. Premium products for people who live in the garden. “Gubba” is an aboriginal word meaning “good”.

Back in 1988, kiwi owner David Graves, developed a Garden Bag that could stand open by itself. Today that small business has grown into an online garden store featuring a huge range of products. We are constantly adding more items to the site. Hopefully it all helps you make your world greener! Labour Weekend is the traditional weekend Kiwi gardeners plant out tomatoes. By late October the soil is warm and the frosts have mostly moved on, so this is the week to get ready. 🍅

Six steps, in order. Harden them off. Set the table with compost and Healthy Soil+. Bury two thirds of the stem. Stake on the day you plant. Invite basil, courgettes and cucumbers. Then net the lot before the birds find it.

Why wait until Labour Weekend? Catface. 🍅
Catfacing happens at flowering, not at fruiting. The flower itself develops imperfectly, and the resulting fruit grows with deformities baked in.
The biggest triggers:
- Cold weather during flowering (nights below 12 degrees)
- Sudden temperature swings while flowers are forming
- Nitrogen overload (rich fertiliser around the time of flowering)
- Some herbicide drift (2,4-D in particular)
- Very thirsty or stressed plants during flowering
- Heirloom and beefsteak varieties are more prone to it than F1 hybrids

So we wait for warm nights, go easy on the nitrogen, and keep the watering even. Labour Weekend is just around the corner.
