Your final panellist for our Creative Sparks workshop NEXT THURSDAY is the wonderful Dan Goodwin.

Born in Fìobha, Scotland, Dan Goodwin (they/them) is a Scottish-Pākeha performance poet, writer, and theatre-maker currently living in Tāmaki-Makau-Rau. In 2016, they completed their Masters of Text and Performance at RADA and Birkbeck, University of London.

They are the 2021 New Zealand National and Auckland Regional slam Champion, and currently lead the Emerging Writers Table for Auckland Theatre Youth Company. Their plays include Breathe, Manatees, and Chrome Dome and Sc**zo. Their poetry has been published in print by Eel Mag, The Spinoff, Ōrongohau: best NZ poems, and Overcom.

Introducing your second panellist for our Creative Sparks workshop NEXT THURSDAY!!

ahana Rahman is a Painter, Textile and Community Artist of Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan Tamil heritage. Born and raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, she graduated with a BFA (Hons) degree from Massey University in 2022 and moved to Tāmaki Makaurau in 2023 to pursue her arts career full-time. In 2025, Sahana was awarded the Asian Arts Fund Visual Arts Residency supported by Satellites and Te Tuhi and funded by Foundation North.

Working across painting, embroidery, and metal embossing, Sahana’s practice explores memory, healing, and diasporic identity through material experimentation and upcycling. Drawing from South Asian artistic traditions, she blends Bengali kantha embroidery, Mughal miniature painting, and earthy colour palettes to create richly layered works that reflect the complexities of being a brown q***r person navigating multiple identities.

As a community artist, Sahana has an ongoing project called the Nokshi Kotha Workshop. Centred around Nokshi Kantha, a fading Bengali embroidery tradition, the workshop invites participants to stitch together stories, conversations, and connections. To date, more than 200 people have contributed to the collaborative embroidered mural, creating a space for collective healing and joy.

Outside of being an artist, Sahana loves spending time with friends (and their pets) / community and loves a good potluck. She enjoys being present in nature and foggy weather.

Introducing your first panellist for our Creative Sparks event

Laura Vincent (Ngāti Māhanga, Ngāpuhi) is an author from Waiuku, based in Tāmaki Makaurau. She has written the food blog hungryandfrozen.com since 2007, and her debut cookbook was published by Penguin Random House in 2013. Laura’s poetry has been published locally and internationally, and has appeared in anthologies published by Āporo Press, Auckland University Press and Muswell Press. Her debut novel Hoods Landing was published on 31 October 2025 through Āporo Press, and was longlisted for the 2026 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards Jan Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction.

I’ve been kind of wobbly lately so I haven’t been posting much to the grid

HOWEVER

I’ve come to find out that maybe actually life is for living, and also life is about love and community, and also, by the way, we have within us the momentous capacity to create unlimited beauty for ourselves and others to enjoy, and on that note

Last night I went to ’s Tāmaki book launch of her debut novel Hoods Landing. (PS the reviews are in and they are 🌟GLOWING 🌟- get your copy from good independent bookstores)

I had a beautiful time at the reading, featuring multiple heart-to-hearts with a social group I’ve been worming my way into since I moved to Auckland a couple of years ago. Followed up by a lovely meal with the beautiful, kind soul - I really enjoyed your company e hoa - I feel tired but really bathed in love today.

So friends, you’re feeling dark at the moment - like I have been on and off for quite a while - just know that sometimes, you do get to be in a room with people you can be yourself with, and who like you even though you’ve been really quite messy and ugly in front of, and they still make you feel like they want you around anyway. And it’s like, really truly worth staying alive for actually? Love you x

I needed something bluey-neutral to replace a beloved cardi that went missing 😭 A stash full of eclectic single skeins means I need to work in homemade fade kits.

Im so pleased at how I’ve blended each skein into the next, I just need help working out the order of the next two! What do you reckon, first photo or second?

I feel like I haven’t reminded you of pink’s superiority as a colour recently, so here’s proof.

I’ve been busy working away on my painting/ art practice which you might have caught if you follow my stories. We’ve also recently moved into a home we own so I’ll be doing heaps of DIY because its very much a blank canvas (landlord white) and if any of you know me at all, this simply won’t do.
