Chapter7 The Buried Truth, Bitter Repentance, and Final Freedom
Chapter7 The Buried Truth, Bitter Repentance, and Final Freedom

[Narrator]: Daniela's real enemy had been her own actions, while Elena's life had become a debt the Navarro family could never repay. Daniela broke down. Sofía stood frozen near the door, then quietly slipped away, unwilling to remain inside the wreckage of a family secret. Alejandro released his sister and looked from his mother to Daniela and finally to the urn on the table. Exhaustion hollowed his face.
[Male]: "Tomorrow I will resign as chief executive and hand day-to-day control to the board. I don't want anything more from this family. I'm taking Elena with me."
[Female]: "Alejandro, where are you going?"
[Narrator]: His mother cried out in panic.
[Male]: "Anywhere, as long as it isn't here."
[Narrator]: He picked up the urn and left the La Moraleja villa. He drove aimlessly through the snowy Madrid night until he stopped near the same narrow side street where I had collapsed after the divorce. Holding the urn, he sank onto the cold pavement and rested against the brick wall.
[Male]: "Elena."
[Narrator]: He whispered her name, his fingers gently stroking the icy ceramic glaze.
[Male]: "I know the truth now. I know you were innocent. I know what you had to endure."
[Narrator]: His voice broke. Tears surged from his eyes again and fell in streams onto the snow.
[Male]: "But what good does knowing it do?" "You're gone." "You took your hatred and that final question with you, and you left me forever." "I'm not happy, Elena." "I'll never be happy again for the rest of my life."
[Narrator]: I floated in front of him and reached toward his haggard face, but my hand passed straight through his flesh, unable to leave behind even the slightest trace of warmth.
[Female]: "I don't hate you, Alejandro. I'm simply tired. The truth is out and the debt is finished, but my life is already gone. Whatever love we had could not survive what happened to us."
[Narrator]: My soul began to dissolve. Tiny points of light drifted upward into the air, merging with the endless white snowfall. I knew the time had come for me to leave. I bent down and placed an intangible kiss upon his forehead, a final farewell.
[Female]: "Keep living, Alejandro. Live with regret if you must, or live by becoming someone better than the man who hurt me. That is your life now. As for me, I am finally free."
[Narrator]: I closed my eyes and let the bitterly cold wind carry me farther and farther away, away from this city drowned in sorrow, away from the man I had once loved with my entire life. The snow continued to fall mercilessly, burying every trace of a love story stained with blood and tears.

Chapter2 — FIVE MINUTES, ONE JUDGMENT
Chapter2 — FIVE MINUTES, ONE JUDGMENT

Vivian told me that she did not need to know every detail to recognize laziness. I told her that confidence was useful only when it arrived after information instead of before it.

Then I walked to Ethan’s desk and tapped the wood.

‘You saw him sleeping and decided he was irresponsible. Ethan, what time did you submit your national AI competition entry?’

He opened one eye. ‘Four twelve this morning. The final model passed validation at three fifty-eight.’

‘And your team’s current ranking?’

‘First in the regional preliminaries.’

I moved to Sienna.

‘You saw her holding a makeup compact and decided she was shallow. Sienna, what did your channel bring in last month?’

Sienna closed the compact with a click. ‘A little over seventy thousand dollars in sponsorship and affiliate revenue. I also hired two part-time editors and donated this month’s ad share to the school arts fund.’

Someone whistled. Vivian’s cheeks colored.

I kept walking.

‘No one in this room needs me to defend every habit they have. Half of them are irritating on purpose. But if you walk into a room, observe fragments of behavior, and decide you understand the people inside it, that is not leadership. It is arrogance wearing a volunteer badge.’

Vivian’s eyes filled instantly. The transformation was almost impressive.

‘I was only trying to help. You don’t have to humiliate me. I’m the new student, and everyone is attacking me just because I care about studying.’

I laughed once. ‘You walked into our room, called us failures, asked for my position, and now the moment someone answers you with facts, you’ve become the victim. That is a remarkable turnaround time.’

The class burst out laughing. Mr. Warren tried to restore order, but Vivian had already decided retreat would be worse than escalation.

She lifted her chin. ‘Fine. Maybe your classmates are talented outside school. But academics still matter. Two weeks from now is the midterm examination. If my total score is higher than yours, you resign as class president and apologize to me in front of the school.’

The room went quiet again, but this time several people were covering their mouths.

Vivian mistook the silence for concern. What she did not know was that I had ranked first in our entire grade for two consecutive years—and first among private-school seniors across the city in the most recent standardized academic league. Even Ethan, who considered sleep a competitive sport, knew better than to challenge me casually.

I leaned against a desk. ‘And if I score higher?’

‘You decide.’

‘Then you spend a month doing the least glamorous service job on campus. No assistants, no paying someone else, no crying your way out of it.’

A boy near the window suggested cleaning the senior bathrooms. I told him he was disgusting. Then, because Vivian looked ready to accept anything, I said, ‘Fine. One month of restroom duty.’

She agreed immediately.

The class reacted with the delighted horror of people watching someone sign a contract without reading it. Ethan leaned toward me and whispered that we should probably explain my academic record before she made things worse. I told him no. Vivian had spent the morning lecturing us about accountability. It would have been disrespectful to deny her the chance to experience some.

Mr. Warren looked as if he had aged five years in three minutes. I sat down, opened my notebook, and told Vivian, ‘You should probably start studying. Kingsley exams punish assumptions.’
