This fish represents the traditional Heckel × Red Turquoise phenotype — quite different from the direction taken by many modern Asian strains, where breeding has often focused on reducing or eliminating dark stress bars while pursuing cleaner bodies and heavier colour coverage.

The Heckel Red Turquoise takes almost the opposite approach. Its prominent central Heckel bar is part of the strain’s identity rather than something to be bred out. There is something distinctly “old-school” about its aesthetic: preserving the signature central bar of the wild Heckel while layering it with the intricate red and turquoise patterning developed through Red Turquoise breeding.

What makes this individual particularly interesting is the quality of its central bar — broad, deep, well-positioned and clearly dominant over the surrounding vertical bars. Rather than an ordinary stress bar caused by temporary tension, it is one of the fish’s most valuable defining characteristics and gives it unmistakable Heckel character.
