“It’s Kind of a Big Deal” they said on their podcast.. Some moments make you stop and look back at just how far you’ve come.
Health Horse has officially been named a finalist in the 2degrees Business Awards – Excellence in Innovation! To say I’m proud would be an understatement.
Starting Health Horse was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken.
I walked away from a secure career in accounting and business analysis to build something I believed the equine industry genuinely needed. Not because it was the easy option, but because I kept seeing problems that didn’t have good solutions. I saw gaps in the market for products that simply didn’t exist—products that could solve so many everyday challenges horse owners were facing.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a natural salesperson. I’m not the loudest person in the room, I’m not particularly outgoing, and I’m generally a little awkward and tend to keep to myself. Putting myself out there as the face of the business was incredibly uncomfortable, especially knowing that not everyone would like me, some people hoped I would fail, and others were convinced it would never work.
But I believed in the products.
I wanted to create supplements that horses and ponies would actually enjoy taking, without needing hard feed or syringes. I wanted treats that offered genuine, targeted nutritional benefits. I wanted enrichment products that created happier, healthier, more mentally stimulated horses while making life easier for their owners.
Today, seeing those ideas become reality is incredibly rewarding.
We now have nervous travellers loading and travelling confidently and quietly. Windsuckers and cribbers showing little to none of the behaviours that once dominated their days. Horses happily occupied in their stables, mentally stimulated instead of bored in confined spaces. Horses that were once herd bound learning to relax and enjoy time on their own. And that’s only scratching the surface of the stories we’ve been privileged to be part of.
None of this has happened because I’m an incredible marketer.
It has happened because I’ve surrounded myself with people who know more than I do, listened to experts, and let real results do the talking. The growth of Health Horse has come from genuine success stories shared by real horse owners. Those recommendations have always meant far more to me than any sales pitch ever could, and I’ll never take that trust for granted.
If someone had told younger me that one day I’d be running a business recognised as a finalist for innovation, I don’t think I would have believed them.
Especially after a period in my life where I lost almost everything… including myself. Rebuilding from scratch wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience, perspective, and the courage to take a chance when the timing never feels perfect.
Young me, who dreamed of being an entrepreneur, would be incredibly proud.
To everyone who has supported Health Horse, believed in my vision, shared your stories, stocked our products, or simply cheered us on along the way—thank you. This recognition belongs to all of you as much as it does to me.
Here’s to continuing to innovate, challenge the norm, and create products that genuinely make a difference for horses and the people who love them!
