❤️ No, they’re not flowers…. But strawberries! I used to grow these by the hundreds before I turned my entire back yard to flowers. I kiss them so much I’m planting a few in tubs. Fresh strawberries on their way!

Extra little seeds require extra care and attention. Some of these seeds are so small you can barely see them - these statice seeds are less than 1mm in size and so fine that there is several thousand of them in just one gram.

Most fine seeds also require very little cover - so we used a light covering of vermiculite which keeps seeds in the soil, moist and covered (just), while also allowing light through.

A few weeks and this cover crop has really taken off. I’ve chosen autumn suitable seeds like mustard and lupins to which have sprouted very quickly. This area of my garden has a couple of months off between flipping so I’m trying to return natural green energy to the soil before I plant it up in spring. I oversowed big time because the birds sure did get their fill (the stakes and flags were my attempt to keep them off)!

Rose planting time! Winter is the ideal time to plant deciduous, bare-root roses. In winter the plants are dormant and leafless, which is exactly the right time for them to establish root systems before spring arrives.
