Jo Beckett Pottery

Jo Beckett Pottery Beautiful NZ-made pottery art for the home & garden. Working in conjunction with a NZ co-op to produce domestic ware. I established Jo Beckett Pottery Workshop.

As a young artist I studied Craft Design at Waikato Polytechnic, graduating in 1992 with a Diploma in Craft and Design (majoring in clay.) Three years later having gained skills and experience in all aspects of the pottery supply industry, I decide to start up my own business. During the early years while my son was young, I opened my studio to the public with clay-making workshops for children and adults. These workshops led to focused clay fundamental classes for home-schooled children, and Early childhood centers. I love all aspects of clay-making throwing, slabbing, casting, hand-building, glazing and of course producing the finished product. Living alongside the Waikato River, I continue to be inspired by my surroundings of bush and bird-life. I no longer offer classes or workshops in pottery making, but have instead focused on selling my products myself. My current range which includes garden art, domestic ware, commission pieces and art for the home. reflects my love of making and creating.

It’s good to be back in the workshop making old things and new things, it will take a while to re-stock everyone again, good things take time.

Many of you may have noticed that I’ve been absent from my pottery business for quite sometime, and I wanted to share why.

Over the past year and a half, my focus has been on caring for my beautiful Mum as she battled melanoma.Sadly , Mum passed away last year, and since then I’ve been navigating the many challenges that come with losing a loved one and settling her estate.

It has been a difficult journey, but one filled with love, memories and gratitude for the time we shared.

Some of you will remember Mum from the markets, where we sold our work side by side. She was an incredibly talented seamstress and many of you purchased her beautiful quilts, dresses and hats and handmade creations over the years. We had so much fun together, and those market days are memories I will treasure.

As I return to my workshop and begin creating pottery again I wanted to take a moment to honour Mum and thank everyone who has supported us both over the years. Your kindness has meant more than you know.

I’m looking forward to getting my hands back in clay, creating new work, and reconnecting with you all. Mums creativity, determination and love of making beautiful things will continue to inspire everything I do.

This photo is of Mum, who will always be a part of my journey.

With love
Jo
