New Lives Community Desexing Programme 🐾

We’re excited to share some important information about our Community Desexing Programme for cats and dogs.

We have two vet clinics on board, serving Hamilton and now Te Awamutu, helping us provide much-needed desexing support to our community.

Our community desexing is for people who genuinely can not afford the retail cost of desexing. Please do not take advantage of this as it ruins our trust.

Vouchers include desexing, microchipping and registration with the NZ Companion Animal Register.

🐱 Cat Vouchers — Hamilton & Te Awamutu
Your contribution is $60, and we cover the balance.

🐶 Dog Vouchers — Te Awamutu Only
Your contribution is $110, and we cover the balance.

Due to previous abuse of our automated voucher system, dog vouchers will now be manually created.

To apply, you will need to provide:
* Proof of address and a photo of your dog. Dog vouchers will also have a strict use-by date. Our team has been spending a considerable amount of time following up with people to use their vouchers, and this simply isn’t sustainable.
Use it or lose it. Once a voucher expires, we will not be able to reissue it.

Vouchers will only be created once an application has been completed and the invoice has been paid. There may be a delay in processing applications, particularly over weekends.

Routine desexing is available only for dogs:
* Under 30kg, that are not pregnant, male dogs with both testicles descended, living within Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Ohaupo, Pirongia or Ōtorohanga.

All new vouchers have an expiry date of 180 days from the date they are generated.

Please note:
* Unused vouchers are non-refundable.
* Vouchers are not transferable to another person.
* Full names must be used when applying.
* Anyone attempting to avoid the checks by using initials or incomplete names may have their voucher cancelled.
* Please check the website for information before contacting us. Emails requesting information that is already available on the website will not receive a response, as we need to keep administration to a minimum.
* Please visit our website to check whether you qualify for subsidised desexing. All eligibility information and voucher applications are available there.

🐱🐶 Help us keep this programme going ❤️
This programme is funded through funds raised by our Op Shop in Cambridge. Without your continued support — donating items, shopping with us and spreading the word we cannot continue providing this much needed programme. Every donation and every purchase helps us desex more cats and dogs and make a real difference in our community.

We know it’s tough out there so New Lives have partnered with two veterinary clinics in Hamilton to offer subsidised desexing for people living in the following district council boundaries:

Desexing Voucher Update 🐾

Our desexing website will be down over the weekend while we make some important updates.

Please keep an eye out early next week for a post with full details about the new rules for our desexing vouchers and information about our new service area.

We know many people are keen to find out more about the new service area, however, we won’t be responding to individual messages or enquiries about this over the weekend.

All the information you need will be included in our post next week.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we get everything updated. We really appreciate your interest and enthusiasm! 💙

Please keep an eye on this page for the update. 🐶🐱

Update: On shoplifting incident.

Firstly some of the comments are disgusting and unnecessary. Race doesnt come in to any of this.

This post was not meant to cause any distress and for that we apologise.

There is CCTV footage of items being taken from younger lady in photo and leaving our premises with stolen goods.

We would like these items returned.

Comments have now been turned off.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes with our community desexing programme and there are a few changes that will be coming soon.

We’re onboarding a new veterinary clinic and we’re excited to have them join us! We’re aiming to have them up and running as part of the New Lives family in August, and details will be announced closer to the time.

Dog desexing in specific areas will be returning. It will be limited to specific council boundaries and eligibility criteria will be stricter than before.

Unfortunately, due to previous abuse of the automated voucher system, dog vouchers will be manually created and you will be required to show proof of your address and photos of your dog.

Vouchers will now have a strict use by date. Our team has been spending a lot of time chasing people and it’s not sustainable. Use it or lose it.

We’re unfortunately pulling the community desexing programme from the Hauraki and Matamata-Piako districts.

It’s a decision that our team struggled with, and we have been honoured to help the people that we have, but there have been a number of hurdles that have made running the programme in these districts more difficult than usual.

Any Kaimai Vets vouchers outstanding must be redeemed by 22nd August 2026.

More details about the new area coverage and updated guidelines will be shared soon.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support responsible pet ownership and the work we do for animals in need.

The New Lives Op Shop will be closed on Friday, 10 July, in observance of Matariki.

We look forward to welcoming you back when we reopen on Saturday, 11 July, at 10:00 am.

Wishing everyone a happy Matariki!
