There’s something about a bracelet that finishes a look without trying too hard.

Whether it’s the only piece you’re wearing or one of many, it’s those little details that make an outfit feel like you.

Which style are you reaching for?

Working in a jewellery store, you realise people aren’t all that different.

There are a few customer personalities that show up again and again…

We reckon you’ll recognise yourself in at least one of these.

So be honest…

Which one are you?

“We should frame it.”

Millie laughed.

“It’s tiny.”

“It doesn’t matter.”

Sasha tipped the little stone into the palm of her hand. It was no bigger than a grain of rice. To anyone else, it looked like nothing but to them…

It was Antwerp.

It was two friends who had spent years talking about travelling together before finally booking the flights, it was sore feet from walking the city all day and sneaky waffles for breakfast. It was getting hopelessly lost but still refusing to use Google Maps because getting lost was half the fun.

And now, somehow…

They’d ended up at one of Antwerp’s famous diamond experiences. The guide was explaining how rough diamonds are found, sorted and cut before handing everyone the chance to search through trays of gravel and stone. Most people were there for the novelty. Sarah wasn’t expecting anything much to happen at all, but Millie was convinced it would.

Then Sasha froze.

“Wait…”

She reached down and between two fingers was the tiniest rough diamond either of them had ever seen.

The guide smiled.

“Looks like you’ve found one.”

The pair looked at each other before bursting into laughter.

“You have got to be kidding.”

For the rest of the trip it travelled everywhere with them, wrapped inside a little tissue and tucked safely into Millie’s backpack. It was pulled out every time someone asked about their holiday, shown off proudly before being carefully hidden away again for safe keeping.

By the time they arrived home strangers had already given them hundreds of ideas on what they could do with it, but between the two of them they had settled on a single one in particular…

~

Layla turned the little stone over beneath the shop light, studying it carefully.

“So this came all the way back from Antwerp?”
The two friends nodded.

“We know it isn’t… you know…”

“Worth a fortune,” Millie finished.

“We don’t really care.”

Layla smiled.

“I don’t think you came in because of what it’s worth.”

Both of them shook their heads. Not long after, the conversation drifted towards Antwerp itself, Layla mentioned that Petersens sources diamonds from there too.

It felt like one of those funny little coincidences that probably wasn’t a coincidence at all.

Sketches were drawn, ideas evolved and one design quickly became two. They discussed whether the pieces should be exactly the same, or if they wanted them to be different but similar.

When everything was finished, each friend left with a piece that looked almost identical to the other.

Almost.

Some of the most meaningful jewellery starts long before anyone walks into a jewellery store.

If you’ve brought home something that deserves a second life, we’d love to hear its story.

We have once again found ourselves arguing about jewellery. Everyone in the store seems convinced they’re right.

Unfortunately for them, we have access to social media and can now outsource the decision making.

So.

If you’re anything like us, you walk into the jewellery store and already know exactly what you want.

Every time you find yourself back there, you’re drawn to the same piece.

You tell yourself you’ll wait.

You haven’t had your birthday yet.
Christmas isn’t far away.
Maybe someone will buy it for you.

But sometimes the person who deserves to spoil you… is you.

Maybe it’s time to start your collection.

Margaret didn’t realise she was the end of the family tree until she opened the jewellery box.

It happened after another funeral.

There had been too many of those lately.

To the point where everyone already knows where they’ll be sitting before they even walk into the church.

When she got home she put the kettle on, took off her coat and carried the little wooden jewellery box through to the kitchen table.

She already knew what was inside.

The brooch had belonged to her great grandmother first.

Then her grandmother.

Then her mother.

Then, eventually, her.

It wasn’t worth a fortune.

At least not if you only measured it in gold.

As a little girl she used to watch her grandmother pin it onto her coat before church every Sunday.

Later it appeared in family weddings.

Then birthdays.

Then funerals.

It somehow became part of every important memory without anybody ever deciding that it should.

When her mum became sick, Margaret found herself fastening it onto her cardigan one afternoon before heading to the hospital.

She didn’t even think about it.

It just felt like the right thing to wear.

After her mum passed away, the brooch came home with her.

The same little jewellery box.

The same faded velvet inside.

For years she never really thought about what would happen after her.

There was always someone.

An aunt.
A cousin.
A niece.

Until there wasn’t.

Sitting at the kitchen table after the funeral, she found herself tracing the edge of the brooch with her thumb.

Who gets this when I’m gone?

She started naming people in her head.

Then crossing them off again.

Some had passed away.

Some she’d lost touch with years earlier.

Some never had children.

By the time she’d reached the end of the list, she realised there wasn’t another name left to think of.

She wasn’t just looking after the brooch anymore.

She was the last chapter of the family that had carried it.

She closed the jewellery box and just sat there for a while.

It felt strange.

Not sad exactly.

Just… strange.

Because nobody really prepares you for the day you realise that family traditions don’t always end with some big moment.

Sometimes they end around a kitchen table.

With a cup of tea going cold beside you.

Every piece of jewellery carries a story.

Some survive generations.

Some become the last remaining piece of a family history.

Do you own a piece of jewellery with a story attached to it? We’d love to hear it below. 🖤

One day, this won’t be your new ring.

It’ll just be your ring.

The one you wear without thinking.
The one that’s there for quiet mornings, busy afternoons, celebrations and completely ordinary days.

Most people choose jewellery thinking about today.

But if you wear it every day, you’ll see it thousands of times over the course of your life.

That’s a long time to spend looking at something you only quite liked.

Choose the piece you’ll still reach for when the trends have changed, your wardrobe has changed, and life looks completely different.

If you’re choosing something important, don’t rush it.

You’ll be wearing it for a while.
