Ever wondered how your mobility scooter or powerchair stops when you let go of the joystick/lever? ⚙️

Electromagnetic brakes make it happen, and here's how they work:

🔹 Stopped: Springs keep the brakes engaged, preventing the equipment from rolling.

🔹 Driving: The joystick activates electromagnets, releasing the brakes so the wheels can turn.

🔹 Joystick/lever released: The electromagnets switch off, and the brakes automatically re-engage.

🛡️ Fail-safe design: If power is lost or the battery goes flat, the brakes automatically engage to help prevent the equipment from rolling away. Most scooters and powerchairs also have a manual brake release lever, usually red or yellow, for when the equipment needs to be pushed manually.

💡 Simply put: Power on = brakes released. Power off = brakes engaged.

Storing your mobility scooter? 🛵

A few simple steps can help keep it in great condition while it's not in use:

🏡 Store it indoors in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Wipe it down first and use a breathable cover to keep dust away.

🛠️ Before storing, remove the key and inflate the tyres to the recommended PSI. While in storage, move the scooter occasionally to help prevent flat spots. Before using it again, check the tyres and give it a quick safety check.

🔋 Battery care: Check your owner's manual for the recommended storage method. As a general guide, lithium batteries should be stored at 50-70% charge, while lead-acid batteries should be stored fully charged and topped up every 4-6 weeks.
