Some recipes don't need improving. They just need remembering.

We've been working on something new at KJ — inspired by the recipes that have followed us through life.

The handwritten ones tucked into well-used recipe books. The ones Mum or Grandma made. The ones that appeared at afternoon tea, family gatherings and around kitchen tables for years.

Introducing Recipes We Grew Up With.

Our first two are about as nostalgic as they come:

Southern Cheese Rolls
A proper Southern classic — including the most important instruction of all: butter the Southern Sushi while hot.

Pikelets
The old-fashioned cream of tartar and golden syrup kind, best served with jam and a good dollop of whipped cream.

Each recipe is engraved onto a bamboo serving paddle in a handwritten recipe-book style — made to be used, displayed, given as a gift, and perhaps bring back a memory or two.

Designed and laser engraved by us in Geraldine, New Zealand.

Both are available now at kjcreations.nz

And we'd love to know — what recipe takes you straight back to the kitchen you grew up in?

Father's Day doesn't have to mean another pair of socks...

Mother's Day seems to get diamonds.

Father's Day gets... socks.

We reckon Dad deserves something a little more memorable.

At KJCreationsNZ we've been busy in the workshop creating a collection of handcrafted New Zealand gifts, all designed and laser engraved right here in Geraldine.

Whether he's the BBQ king, the gardener, the bloke who's impossible to buy for, or simply appreciates something made to last, we've got plenty of ideas.

Our Father's Day Collection includes:
• Reclaimed slate BBQ platters featuring our original artwork
• Slate coasters
• Rustic Larch BBQ Timers
• Keyrings
• Laser engraved plant markers
• And more........

Every piece is made in small batches, so once they're gone, they're gone.

Take a look at the collection at www.KJCreations.nz

And if you know someone impossible to buy for, follow our page. We're always creating unique handcrafted New Zealand gifts for Father's Day, Christmas, birthdays and those "what on earth do I buy them?" occasions.

BBQ Timer Bottle Opener – Handmade

A bit of fun for the BBQ area, man cave or deck.

These handcrafted bottle openers are made from natural pine timber rounds and laser engraved with our popular BBQ Timer design.

Each opener is fitted with a quality cast metal bottle opener and finished with a durable polyurethane varnish, making it suitable for outdoor use in a covered BBQ area or on the deck.

Available:

1 × 210 mm x 20mm $30.00
3 × 180 mm x 20mm $25.00

These are the last four available. Unfortunately, I can no longer source these pine rounds, so once they're sold, they're gone.

As they are made from natural timber, every piece has its own grain, shape and character.

Handmade in Geraldine by KJCreationsNZ.

Not just for chopping boards...

Our KJCreations Wood Butter is made right here by us using our own food-safe formulation.

Perfect for keeping wooden chopping boards, serving boards, utensils, and salad bowls looking their best. It also works beautifully on wooden tool handles, leather boots and belts, and even as a traditional shoe polish.

A little goes a long way—just rub on, leave for a few minutes, then buff with a soft cloth.

Simple. Food-safe. Multi-purpose. Made in Geraldine.

Sometimes a new product starts with a simple question: "What can this become?"

A while ago, we were fortunate to acquire a quantity of reclaimed roofing slate salvaged from a building on the corner of Colombo Street and Moorhouse Avenue in Christchurch following the Canterbury earthquakes.

After plenty of experimenting, cutting, shaping, and a few nervous moments along the way, the first piece from our new slate collection is finally complete.

It seemed fitting that the first design should be Te Iwa o Matariki, celebrating remembrance, reflection, and new beginnings.

From a Christchurch rooftop to our workshop in Geraldine, this piece has already had quite a journey.

We're looking forward to seeing where the next chapter takes it.

The first day of winter has arrived.

Soon the Matariki stars will rise, marking the beginning of the Māori New Year and a time to gather with whānau and friends.

A time to reflect on the year that has passed.

A time to remember those who are no longer with us.

A time to celebrate the present and share hopes for the future.

This year, we are excited to introduce our Te Iwa o Matariki Collection — a range inspired by the nine stars of Matariki and the traditions they represent.

Crafted in Geraldine from recycled New Zealand timbers, each piece is designed to bring people together around the table, where stories are shared, memories are honoured, and new traditions begin.

Light the stars.

Share a meal.

Tell the stories.

Create a Matariki tradition.
