Every year we hold an informal competition to see who can find the biggest chestnut when we are collecting the nuts. Could it be that I found it on the first day of gathering? How big do you think this one is? Sadly this one wont be making an appearance in one of the bags of nuts for sale, as it doesn't make the grade - it has a split skin, so its destined to be sheep food.

Overcast with a touch of rain today in Canterbury, NZ. Perfect day for a casserole cooking in a slow cooker. I like to add some peeled chestnuts, they take on the flavours of the casserole and add a sort of kumara type morsel to the finished dish. It smells wonderful.

Chestnuts almost ready, I am guessing we might be able to send a few orders out before Easter. :)

Wet weather = limited chestnut gathering. I do have 10kg of fresh chestnuts ready to go out today, if anyone is hoping to make anything extra special for their Easter menu. I have 1 kg, 2 kg and 3 kg bags.

Fine weather again, slowly catching up on nut orders. Thank You to people who message me their requests. I will be popping the roadside stall back out very soon. The wet weather has meant the driveway has some interesting fungi popping up here and there. If anyone knows where I could find porchini or birch bolete mushrooms I would love to introduce some to the chestnut paddock in the hope they will spread.
