😷A cough is often the main symptom of a viral infection in your throat, main airway or the airways going into your lungs. A cough can sound awful, but it is rarely a sign of serious illness. Coughing is an important reflex which helps to clear mucus from the airways. It is a common symptom in children, especially when they are under 5 years of age.
😷Even though it can be annoying a cough is sign that your body is doing it job to try to clear your airways if they are blocked by something, such as phlegm (mucus), smoke, dust or a piece of food.
😷Most coughs clear up on their own and you can take care of yourself without visiting your doctor. However, if your cough lasts for more than three weeks, then see your doctor.
😷If you have a cough and you’re short of breath, cough up blood or have unexplained problems like weight loss or a high temperature (fever), you should see your GP urgently.

Medicine supply alert: Candesartan (Candestar)

Candesartan is widely used to treat high blood pressure and some heart conditions. Stock of the funded brand, Candestar, is currently low due to manufacturing issues, so some pharmacies may not have immediate supply.

Pharmac is working closely with the supplier to bring alternative brands into New Zealand, with shipments expected over the coming weeks. This is expected to continue until September.

If you take this medicine, don't stop without speaking to your doctor or pharmacist first. They can advise on alternatives if needed.
