Canterbury weather doesn't wait for a convenient moment. Now your event doesn't have to either.

When the forecast shifts the night before, or the nor'wester decides to make an appearance mid-afternoon, the last thing you want is a contingency plan that isn't really a plan at all.

Marquee hire from Party Warehouse removes weather as a variable. Frame, peg-and-pole, and clear marquees to suit every event size and style, fully installed and ready before your first guest arrives.

We handle the setup, so you walk into a finished, protected space with nothing left to worry about.

Weddings. Corporate functions. Outdoor events of every scale. Your event runs as planned, whatever Canterbury throws at it.

Secure your date early. Talk to the Party Warehouse team to confirm availability. 🎪

Every piece of hire equipment gets collected, checked, and prepared for its next event. Nothing ends up in a skip.

That's the part most people never see. The speaker goes back. The lighting rig goes back. The outdoor furniture goes back. The waste doesn't stay behind.

Buy a speaker, a set of chairs, or a marquee heater for a single occasion, and you're left with one of two problems: it takes up storage, or it becomes landfill.

Hiring sidesteps both.

At Party Warehouse we collect, check, and ready every piece of hire gear for its next outing. Weddings, functions, corporate events across Christchurch and wider Canterbury, the same equipment does the rounds for years.

Here's what nearly two decades in Canterbury events has taught us: the occasions that look effortless and leave nothing behind are almost always the ones where everything was hired rather than owned.

Borrowing instead of buying is one of the simplest responsible choices a host can make.

Before your next event, think about what you actually need, then hire it instead of buying it. Talk to us about what's possible. 🎪

There is one sentence that changes every event budget conversation. Most people never say it out loud.

You know the moment. The hire consultant starts running through items, the list gets longer, and you find yourself nodding along quietly, hoping the total lands somewhere reasonable. It almost never lands where you expected.

The sentence is this: "Can we talk through what that will cost before you book it in?"

That is it. Not a complaint. A fair request to be informed, and any good hire team will welcome it without hesitation.

Say it the moment items start being confirmed. A dance floor upgrade. A linen change. Heating for a winter marquee. A late add-on the week before your event.

Early cost clarity means no last-minute surprises, no rushed scope changes, and a hire package that genuinely fits your event and your budget.

The line works every time because it moves the conversation onto honest ground before anything is locked in.

Say it early. Say it every time. Budget conversations shape decisions when they happen upfront, and create regret when they happen after.

Talk to the Party Warehouse team before you confirm your next hire. Ask the question early, and we'll walk you through exactly what everything costs so your event stays on budget. 🎪

That view behind a marquee? It only looks like this in winter.

Snow on the Kaikouras, frost on the grass, and your event warm and glowing inside. Canterbury in July and August shows its best face, and it's genuinely stunning.

It also demands planning that a summer event doesn't.

Heaters aren't an afterthought right now. When the temperature drops after sunset, whether guests stay late or reach for their coats often comes down to how the marquee is heated and how well it holds that warmth.

Ground conditions matter too. Frost, soft ground, and wet grass all change how a marquee is anchored and how your flooring needs to sit. A site that works beautifully in February behaves differently in July.

Structure choice is non-negotiable. Our frame and peg-and-pole marquees are engineered to hold their ground when a Canterbury winter throws wind and weather at them. Silk linings, solid flooring, and proper heating turn a cold paddock into a warm room with a mountain view.

Planning a winter event in Canterbury? Talk to us early. The best sites, the right heaters, and the right marquee for your guest count all take a bit of forward thinking. 🎪

After nearly 20 years of setups, these are the 10 items that turn up on almost every single order.

We've ordered them the way an event actually gets built, from the shelter overhead through to the finishing touches guests always feel even when they don't notice them.

01. Marquee. The shelter everything else lives under.
02. Tables & Chairs. Where your guests actually spend the night.
03. Chair Covers & Linen. The layer that lifts a room.
04. Glassware & Crockery. The details on every table.
05. Sound System. Music, speeches, MC mic.
06. Event Lighting. The shift from day to night.
07. Heaters. Essential for a Canterbury evening.
08. Dance Floor. Because grass and heels don't mix.
09. Portaloos. The least glamorous, most appreciated hire on the list.
10. Staging & Flooring. For bands, brides, and speeches.

Ten items. One checklist. The bones of every great event we've helped build across Christchurch.

If you're planning something and aren't sure where to start, start here. Then talk to us and we'll walk you through the rest. 🎪

Your guest list just jumped by 20 people, and the party is two days away.

Take a breath. This is more common than you think, and it's completely manageable when you know what to do.

Our regular customer Kyla Nitschke put it well: our team is "very accommodating when we need to adjust orders, add items or change numbers at short notice." Headcounts shift. Plans change. That's just how events work.

Swipe through for our three tips on handling last-minute changes without the panic: call early rather than late, have your updated numbers ready, and confirm your pickup or delivery slot once the order is revised.

A quick call and a clear list are all it takes to keep a last-minute change from becoming a last-minute disaster 🎪

Canterbury's weather has a personality of its own, and it rarely reads the run sheet.

After nearly two decades of setting up marquees across the region, from mountain-backdrop weddings to city corporate functions, we've noticed the same four questions separate a smooth event day from a stressful one.

1. What's the surface? Grass, concrete, deck, gravel? It changes everything. Peg and pole marquees need grass. Frame marquees work on hard or soft surfaces. Gazebos aren't built for Canterbury wind or rain, no matter what the forecast says.

2. Size up, not down. Guest count is the starting point, not the answer. Once you factor in a dance floor, bar, buffet, and space for people to actually move, that "cosy" marquee gets tight fast.

3. Weather contingency. Sun, wind, and a southerly can all show up in the same afternoon. Sides, flooring, and heating aren't add-ons here. They're the plan B that keeps plan A running.

4. Delivery and setup timing. The best dates book out early, especially over wedding and festival season. Locking in your slot weeks ahead means we can set up on your timeline, not squeeze around it.

Planning something outdoors this season? Get in touch early and we'll help you make the right calls before the marquee even goes up. 🎪

A venue gives you four walls. A marquee gives you any location you want, including your own backyard.

That's the real difference most people don't think about until they've already put down a deposit.

Booking a venue means working within fixed capacity, fixed décor rules, and dates that suit the venue's calendar rather than yours. It's the right call if you want a built-in space with zero setup responsibility.

Hiring a marquee flips the equation. You choose the location, the layout, the styling, and the timeline. Your farm, your family's back paddock, a scenic Canterbury site, a corporate car park transformed for one night only. The setting becomes part of the story.

Best for venues: convenience and simplicity. Best for marquees: full control over how the day looks, feels, and flows.

If you've been searching for a venue that "gets it" and coming up short, the answer might not be another venue. It might be the space you already have, styled properly. Talk to us about what's possible.
