The starting point of the tides are the attractive forces of the moon and the sun as well as the centrifugal forces that occur.
The average time between two meridian transits of the Moon is 24 hours 50 minutes and 30 seconds. This is known as the lunar or tidal day.
It means that the tidal day is 50 minutes longer than the solar day of 24 hours.
The west coasts of Europe and Africa and the east coasts of North and South America follow a semi-diurnal pattern of two high tides and two low tides daily at more or less equal intervals.

Its not often we get a lovely letter and some history regarding our repairs but now and again we get a great story . Our customer spent 28yrs in their lovely boat navigating around the world and ended up finally settling for Stewart island .
