SH25 at Kereta Hill set to reopen tomorrow afternoon

The Thames Coast Road at Kereta Hill is expected to reopen to a single lane of traffic tomorrow afternoon, Friday 17 April, after being closed since Sunday.

NZTA says subsidence at the site, combined with further ground movement during the week, has delayed earlier repair plans. An excavation is now underway, with rock and metal being laid and compacted before asphalting to allow a single lane to open.

Area Manager for Maintenance and Operations Andy Oakley says safety has to come first. "The site needs to settle and allow us to compact a metal base," he says, adding that crews are working as quickly as possible to reopen the highway.

In the meantime, all traffic north of Kereta Hill is travelling via SH25 and SH25A to reach Thames. Emergency vehicles can be escorted through the closure if needed.
