Well I finally did it. I stood in front a full room of people and created a beautiful arrangement.
I honestly was amazed at how nervous I was, for the first time in years I sent Mike off to the chemist to buy me a bottle of rescue remedy!
I often do public speaking but public creating is very different.
When I make a flower arrangement I get into a flow, the outside world kinda disappears and the flowers and foliage is all I can see. I love it, it’s peaceful. It’s also how my brain works with anything I get passionate about.
I honestly wasn’t sure I could find that flow and connection to the flowers while also trying to talk and explain what I was doing. But I think I did.
I have learnt a heap from doing it, especially about proportions and perspective. Because everyone in the crowd was sitting at a lower level than I was working at they were seeing it quite differently to me. I should have gone and sat down with them occasionally to see it from their perspective. It is something I do when I am making an arrangement for a particular place, I try to view it how it will be seen.
This was really apparent to me when people stood to come view it, I heard the comments on how different it looked.
When I got home I played for approximately ten seconds and it changed the whole arrangement from one that needed looking down and into, to one that was balanced from all perspectives. Hopefully the photos show you that.
I am off to Wellington at the weekend to a course being held by a German Master Florist. I can’t wait, for I don’t know what I don’t know and I am so looking forward to adding another layer of learning to my floral addiction.
For me life is enhanced every time I follow my passions and I encourage you to follow yours.
