Morning everyone 🙋♀️Looks like we're in for some potential thunderstorms in Central Otago, Clutha and Dunedin this afternoon.. 👇
🟡 Severe thunderstorm Watch 🟡
Area: Central Otago, Dunedin, Clutha, Southland
Period: 7hrs from 2pm - 9pm Tue, 18 Feb
Forecast: Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to affect Southland, southern Central Otago, and inland Clutha and Dunedin during the afternoon and evening. Between 2pm and 9pm these thunderstorms could become SEVERE, generating LOCALISED DOWNPOURS with rainfall rates of 25 to 40 mm per hour.
Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.
Note: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and monitor for possible Severe Thunderstorm
