Solid or engineered isn't about which sounds nicer. It comes down to the room you're flooring.

Solid timber is a single piece of timber all the way through.

It can be sanded and refinished for decades, and suits stable, dry areas like living rooms and bedrooms.

Engineered timber is layered for extra stability. It handles the temperature and humidity swings solid timber can struggle with, which makes it the safer choice with underfloor heating or in rooms prone to moisture, and it's still a genuine timber floor, not a look-alike.
