Don't let the pressure of Christmas push you into debt. With 6 months to go until the big day, now is the time to be thinking about where you can save money, what your priorities are, and if there's enough room in your budget to put a little aside each month to cover it.

Here are a few other tips on budgeting for Christmas:

1. Streamline your gift list based on your budget - if you can afford 5 presents then prioritise who those 5 people should be

2. Suggest skipping gift-giving or reducing the budget with friends and family - you might be surprised how grateful others will be that you spoke out

3. You can get 'more bang for your buck' when you buy pre-loved so try shopping for second-hand items in your community family store

4. Time can be the greatest gift - offer to babysit, walk the dog or do some gardening

5. Host a bring-and-share Christmas lunch instead of preparing everything yourself or going to a restaurant
