The tulips are coming - and you get to be first in line!

These are premium, quality tulip varieties. The bulbs are grown in NZ, ordered, chilled, planted, cared for and harvested by me, with the bulb attached, to give you the best tulip experience in the vase.

❤︎ You will receive four bunches of tulips over four weeks.

❤︎ Your flowers will be delivered on Thursday mornings (delivery is included to Greymouth addresses or please message to arrange pick up or out-of-town delivery).

❤︎ Your first bunch of tulips should be with you at the start of September, depending on Mother Nature. I will confirm the date for you closer to the time via email.

❤︎ Please make sure you leave a bucket or a vase of clean water out if you will not be home.

❤︎ If you are away on a delivery day, you will need to organise someone to collect your flowers for you, or gift them to a friend.

Some highlights from two days of school holiday art classes here in the studio at the flower farm. 🌾

Not everyone here knows I am an art teacher, having studied Fine Arts at Ilam long before I opened a seed packet or cut a flower! My favourite and most formative job was teaching Painting and Photography at St. Pat’s College, Silverstream, straight out of uni. How lucky I am to have been there when I was. 💫

I do pop up around town now and then for Greymouth Primary school projects, often murals and some relieving too, so you may have seen me in my painting pants, away from the field! 🧡

Phoebe Walker is my little school holiday art program which has been in hibernation since having our third baby, but it’s back! I’m just looking at an trialing an after school session too so keep an eye out for a call for EOIs there. ☀️

We will be back during the first week of the September holidays again so watch this space! 😽

Sunday plans? Come and visit my winter garden!

Grab a ticket to my behind-the-scenes workshop ‘Growing the Flowers’ and join us to chat all things growing. I’ll have tips and tricks to share, dahlia dividing to demo, plenty of compost and soil chat, some goodies for you to take home and a wee seedling shop (with eftpos).

Announcing my Winter Workshop: Growing the Flowers

Visit my winter garden and learn what you can do in your garden this season, to set yourself up for a spring and summer of flowers.

We will cover garden and soil prep and seasonal planting in our West Coast context. You will leave with a plan for your growing space, an understanding of the less colourful field work and some seedlings to plant!

We will be focusing on the behind the scenes of seasonal flower growing, including

🍂 What to do right now in the garden
🪱 Tricks for happy plants and soil
🌱 Dahlia dividing and growing tips (plus a tuber presale!)
🦋 Composting, mulching and feeding (the easy way)

This workshop will be held rain or shine so please wear appropriate clothing for the weather. There will be complementary tea and coffee, a range of seedlings available to purchase and you will get the first pick of my dahlia tuber pre-sale. Bring your questions, challenges, and garden dreams to share!

Mabel and I started the great dahlia dig yesterday.
It’s always fun to compare the tuber clump: the grubby, below-the-soil, workhorses that create the blooms with the bouquet-ready juicey gals produced through high summer. I love this about the gig of growing. Full circle, dirty and lovely.

Everlasting Arrangements: an Autumn Workshop

Here’s a wee demo post of something you might make at my upcoming workshop.

I will guide you to make a little sculptural arrangement that you can hang on your wall. There will be buckets of dried ingredients, grown here in Paroa, as well as beautiful Eucalyptus from Moana and vines and twine to wrap up little bases from.

As an experienced art teacher, flower grower, wine and cocktail lover, a floral workshop at Speight’s is my forte!!! So don’t miss this one.

A hello, a wee background yarn and a big thanks from me!

Thanks for following along on here, for all of the support this season and to those of you who have been here since the kernel of this dreamy, immense, wild idea of a biz started back in 2021.

Five years seems like quite a while as I scroll back through the albums on my phone. But every month, every season (and often every day!) there are new ideas, challenges and things to work out that keep me feeling like such a rookie but also totally like a kid in a candy shop.

The goal has always been to have a creative practice, to have flexibility around our growing family and to spend lots of time outdoors, in touch with the seasons. I love the variety, the creativity and the pivotable nature of it all, I’m a yes girl and we laugh about how I can’t say no but I do believe that this is all possible because of all of those yeses! The yeses and the endless belief and high fives on the home front from my wee family.

With my background as an artist and art teacher and an upbringing on a farm, the puzzle pieces, looking back, slide so nicely together into what we have created with Flowers by Phoebe.

I planted the first flowers on the lawn in Reefton in 2021, turning them into my first vase arrangements each week for Dawson’s Hotel. After moving to Greymouth in 2022 and expanding the growing area significantly, I completed a DWC CoStarters business course, made a roadside flower shed and a website, ordered seeds, then seedlings, bulbs and trees and worked the rest out as it rolled along. There were many questions to my generous fellow flower growers (the wonderful FBA) and as many Yeses as I could get away with.

As this season slows with the cooling, shortening days, I’m excited for next season which we kick off with the tulips in late August. You can still order flowers through the winter but the shed will have a break from sometime in May. We have workshops on through the cooler months and lots of field work to do to get everything flying for Springtime.
