The last few days of calm, still weather have made spraying conditions ideal 👌
With a long weekend coming up, this might be the last good chance to get on top of weeds before the wet winter weather arrives 🌧️
A good reminder when spraying around young plants 🌱

Using a glyphosate based spray can make the job much safer around new plantings, as it’s a contact spray — it will only damage the plant it actually touches. Unlike residual or systemic sprays that can stay in the soil and be absorbed through the roots, glyphosate won’t affect nearby plants unless there’s direct spray contact.

The same goes for broadleaf weedkillers on lawns too — be careful with drift, or even the lawn clippings especially around young natives, shelter trees, or garden plants 🌱

🌱 Week one of cuttings and we’re already filling the tunnel house 🙌
A busy week of snipping, sticking, and setting up the next season’s plants. Nothing better than watching trays turn into thousands of future plants 🌿

Great to see the work being highlighted by Taranaki Regional Council and all the farmers and volunteers involved in the riparian planting scheme 👏

We’ve been busy over the last few weeks delivering plants to the Stratford and Hawera depots, as well as directly to farmers and landowners right across the region who are getting stuck into this season’s planting projects.

We’re proud to have been supplying plants into the scheme since 2009 and have loved seeing the positive impact these projects continue to have across the region.

There’s some fantastic work happening out there — from riparian planting and wetland restoration through to native shelter belts and hedging projects — all helping protect waterways, improve biodiversity, provide shelter for stock and enhance the wider environment for future generations. 🌱

Farmers often don’t get enough credit for the work they do beyond the farm gate, so it’s awesome to see so many people investing time, energy and resources into caring for the land and waterways across Taranaki 🏔️

We’re giving a huge shout-out to these amazing volunteers today – you guys are awesome! 👏
The Stratford A&P Association committee team has been sorting and distributing riparian plants to farmers and landowners for many years – all giving up their own time to do this incredibly valuable mahi. 🥰
Pictured here at the Stratford depot, volunteers are loading up plants that will soon be planted along waterways and wetlands right across the region as part of our riparian programme and native plant scheme.
The scheme has now distributed around 8.3 million (yes… million!!) plants over the past 30 years, helping to support water quality and biodiversity in Taranaki.
Our Riparian Team Leader Holly (second from the left) is pictured alongside Vicki, the dispatch coordinator, who makes sure the right plants go out during this busy week. ✅
Many of the volunteers in this photo have been helping out for years, and Vicki says it’s been fantastic to have some younger helpers lending a hand this season too! 🫶
Thank you all for the time, energy and passion you bring – it really does make a difference. 💯

An early morning visit to ZEALANDIA Ecosanctuary.

Getting in right as the gates opened gave us the best chance to see the day come to life, including the incredible tuatara slowly emerging and soaking up the first warmth of the sun.

Such a unique experience seeing these ancient reptiles begin their day — a real reminder of how special our native wildlife is, and the importance of places like this that protect and restore it.

If you’re ever in Wellington, we’d highly recommend making the effort to get there early… you never know what you might see.

We spent Saturday sharing our story and day-to-day operation with students from WITT’s Horticulture course 🌱

It’s a great programme — and actually where it all started for me a fair few years ago!

Always good to give back, connect, and see the fresh passion coming through 🌿

A few weeks ago, in the rain, we were lucky enough to be part of a community kiwi release day.

No matter the weather, it’s always inspiring to see the effort that goes into these moments. From the years of trapping work on Mount Taranaki, to the incredible support from sanctuary spaces like Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve, it all plays a part in making these releases possible.

These special places give kiwi the chance to breed, grow, and thrive in more natural conditions — a huge step forward for such a precious taonga.

Still feeling pretty humbled to witness it all.

👉 This Sunday, there’s a great chance to get involved, with a tracking card event happening out at Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve. A hands-on way to learn more about the work happening behind the scenes and help monitor our native wildlife. Check out their page for more details Scenic Reserve Trust
