Lavendyl is only five minutes from central Kaikoura, 2.5 hours drive from Christchurch, and 2 hours drive from the Picton ferries. We make our own lavender-based ice-creams and usually have 6 flavours in stock including a vegan option. We prefer to serve these in cones as it minimises our carbon footprint; we can provide a gluten free cone. When business is quieter we serve the ice-cream in indivi
dual compostable containers. Again, to reduce our carbon footprint, we remove the plastic lids we use in the freezer so we can wash and re-use them. The gardens have interest all-year round and there is always at least one variety of lavender in flower. Our large cropping lavender beds flower between December and February. Dahlias, roses, hebes, bulbs and natives among many other plants give interest throughout the year. The Circle of Thyme provides a peaceful spot to meditate and relax. There are spots to have a picnic; Why not pre-order our lavender pickers lunch, must be ordered the day before, and it comes with everything you need to picnic outside? We have a wide range of lavender goods made using our own lavender oil. We also stock Ashford spinning, weaving and felting supplies. We carry Ashdene crockery, a range of beautiful tea-towels and other NZ-made gifts. Finish off your visit with something in the tea-room. We serve Star Roast locally roast, Fair-Trade, organic coffee and our own lavender tea alongside a range of other teas and soft drinks. Accompany your drink with a lavender scone or other lavender flavoured sweet treat. We are always trying out something new. We cater for gluten free and vegan diets but it is always wise to contact us in advance about special dietary requirements. We offer High Teas and Cream Teas; High Teas must be cooked in advance but we can usually cater for Cream Teas on demand.
