With the Waipapakauri Gamebird Hunting Comp prizegiving happening this weekend, it seemed like a pretty good time to look back on Kane’s 2026 duck season 🦆🦆.

And it was a bloody good one!

The highlight for Kane was definitely opening wekend. He took his cousin Rusty along for his first hunt at a spot that’s been part of their family’s opening weekend tradition for more than 50 years which made an already epic weekend that little bit more special.

And the ducks played ball too. Opening morning set the bar pretty high, with Kane reaching his limit by 9am!

From there, the season saw him hunting a few different spots around the Far North, with plenty of early mornings, some great shoots and a few quieter ones thrown in for good measure.

He even managed to convince Laura to head out for her first ever duck hunt later in the season. After plenty of persuasion she finally gave in, headed out for a morning and managed to get her first mallard so we’ll call that another win for the season 😂

All up, plenty of good hunts, good company and some pretty awesome memories made along the way.

And if you know Kane, you’ll know he’s already counting down to the next one… only 262 days until the 2027 game bird season opens 😂🦆

Before we completely wrap up duck season, the Waipapakauri Duck Hunting Comp prizegiving is on this Saturday and they’ve got a couple of great raffles up for grabs:

Kane and the boys have just got back from a successful meat mission 🦌, running the trusty Tikka T3x .243 paired with the PARD Night Stalker 4K EX.

The original plan was to head to Whanganui, but a last minute change of plans saw them make the trip to South Head instead... and they're pretty glad they did. It turned into one of those hunts where everything just came together, with plenty of quality meat heading home.

The animals are all in at the butcher now, so the freezer's going to be well stocked for a while yet. Better still, we've got a heap being turned into salami, and we'll bring some into the shop over the next week or two.

If you happen to pop in while it's here, you might just score yourself a taste. 😋

Mat from Xpedite (the Asso crew) popped into the shop today with a few new Asso products for us to test out before we decide whether they'll earn a spot on our shelves.

We're pretty keen to put the new Knight UV Mono, Pink Hunter low visibility mono, Invisible Fluorocarbon leaders and Ultraflex Mono through their paces over the next few weeks. Laura's especially excited to give the Knight UV Mono a crack... with her eyesight these days, anything that helps her see the line a bit better has to be worth a shot!

We don't like stocking gear just because it's new, we'd rather fish it first and make sure it does what it says on the packet.

If it impresses us, you'll be seeing it in store alongside the Asso Tapered Leaders and Surf Fluorocarbon that plenty of you are already using.

We'll keep you posted on how it goes!
