I need to make one final statement, because it seems the majority of you do understand what has actually happened and have been incredibly patient.
Heritage Dahlias has not held a public named dahlia sale.
We reached out to a small group of growers who were wanting to expand their collections. The whole idea was to help them access sought-after varieties, flower-farm heroes and wishlist dahlias without paying the huge prices some of these varieties can command.
This involved around 30 people.
And this part is important:
No one has paid more than $20 per tuber. No one.
Not Romance.
Not Karry 1Sinclair.
Not April Heather.
Not Hamari Rose.
Not Rosemary’s Webb.
Orders were curated as bulk collections at an agreed total price. They were not individually priced tuber-by-tuber at market value.
Could we have done that? Absolutely.
I could have looked at what some of these varieties were selling for elsewhere and priced them accordingly. We could have made thousands more.
I deliberately didn’t.
I wanted these varieties to be accessible to growers who were trying to build their collections.
Once everything had been allocated, packed and sent, we were considering whether we might eventually offer remaining stock publicly.
So if you are sitting there thinking, “Hang on... when did Heritage even have this sale?”
We didn’t.
This was a small grower supply arrangement that grew much bigger and more complicated than anticipated.
Heritage Dahlias is also not some faceless internet account.
I live at Heritage Farm.
Our business operates here.
Our offices are here.
We grow here.
We host people and events here.
There are real humans behind this business.
People are absolutely entitled to be frustrated about delays. They are entitled to contact us, ask questions and expect communication. I understand that completely.
But frustration about how quickly an order is being fulfilled does not suddenly make a legitimate business fraudulent.
Orders are still being processed and supplied.
I have acknowledged the delays. I have explained what has happened. I am working through it.
But I will not accept the narrative that Heritage Dahlias was created to take people’s money or deceive them.
That simply is not true.
And that is the last statement I intend to make about it.
